WILMINGTON, Del. – The HFU women's basketball team used a 28-5 surge between the end of the first quarter and beginning of the second to defeat Goldey-Beacom 88-65 on Saturday afternoon.
Individual Highlights
- Freshman Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) led all players with a season-best 21 points on 8-of-10 field goals and 3-of-3 3-pointers in just 21 minutes
- She was also second on Holy Family with six rebounds
- Sophomore Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) was not far behind with a career-high 18 points on 7-of-10 field goals and 2-of-4 triples in 19 minutes
- Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) (three 3-pointers) and Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) (5-of-6 shooting) made it four Tigers in double figures
- Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) led all players with a season-best nine boards while Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) registered a game-high five assists

- Holy Family set new season-bests with a 53.0 field goal percentage (35-of-66), 11 3-pointers and 23 assists
- The Tigers held a 40-26 edge in points in the paint and outrebounded the Lightning 40-28
How it Happened
First Quarter
- Morrow and Prevost combined to score the first eight points in the opening 2:25
- Goldey-Beacom responded with a 13-2 flurry to take its only lead, 10-13, with 3:25 showing
- That lead lasted just 19 seconds as Prevost converted a 3-point play on the ensuing trip down the court, beginning a 12-2 run to end the quarter that featured five points apiece from both Prevost and Hinkle
- Hinkle's triple made the score 22-15 after 10 minutes of play
Second Quarter
- Hinkle then opened the second period scoring with a layup to complete a 14-2 stretch
- The Lightning got as close as six with a 3-pointer, but that was their last basket for 5:39 as HFU tallied 14 unanswered to establish a double-digit advantage for good
- Hinkle scored the last five, including a layup for a 20-point advantage, 38-18, 4:08 ahead of the break
- That completed the 28-5 surge that featured 14 Hinkle points
- Jessica Riepe's (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) trifecta to beat the buzzer brought the scoreboard to 48-25 entering the locker room
Second Half
- The lead reached as large as 32, 68-36, when Hinkle made a free throw with 2:58 on the third quarter clock
