Men’s Basketball Runs Past Cheyney, 103-60

CHEYNEY, Pa. – All 11 Tigers to play scored as the Holy Family men's basketball team defeated Cheyney 103-60 on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Making his first career start, Aamir Hurst (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann Goretti) had 10 more points than any other player with a season-high 26 on 10-of-13 field goals and 5-of-7 3-pointers in 24 minutes
  • Nate Conyer (Pemberton, N.J./BCIT Medford Tech) was HFU's second leading scorer, tying a career-best with 14 points on 5-of-9 field goals and 4-of-7 3-pointers
  • Elijah Jakeman (Philadelphia, Pa./Abraham Lincoln) also tied a career-best, with 12 points on 5-of-8 field goals and 2-of-3 triples
  • Jake McGonigle (Ocean City, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) led all players with season-highs of seven assists and three steals, to go along with a season-best six points
  • Tazir Cantey (Lindenwold, N.J./Eastern Regional) had seven assists too, a new season-high, to go along with eight points
  • Josh Thomas (Queens, N.Y./Hodgson Vo-Tech (Cecil College)) pulled down a game and season-best eight rebounds, while adding a season-best seven points 
  • David Robinson Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) made it four Tigers in double-figures with 12 points, while Jeremiah Alexander (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem (Bloomfield College)) (seven) and Vernon Johnson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) (six) both added season-highs

  • Holy Family's 60.0 3-point percentage, 15-of-25, was its highest since making 63.2 percent, 12-of-19, at Clarion on Nov. 15, 2011, while the Tigers' 103 points were their most since also scoring 103 on Nov. 12, 2016 vs. Southern Connecticut State
 
How it Happened 
First Half
  • Cheyney scored the first five points for its largest lead and was ahead until back-to-back 3-pointers by Hurst and McGonigle gave HFU its first advantage at 13-11 6:09 into the action
  • That began a 15-2 surge that put the Tigers on top 22-13 when Conyer hit a triple at the 10:52 mark
  • The Wolves battled all the way back to regain the lead, 30-32, 3:30 ahead of the break
  • Hurst would score 10 points in a 17-2 half-ending flurry over the final 2:28 though, highlighted by an and-one that put HFU up by double-digits for good, 44-34, with just 22 seconds showing
  • Johnson then put an exclamation point on the run with a 3-pointer for a 47-34 score-line entering the locker room 
Second Half
  • Holy Family came out with the first seven points, the final four of which were by Robinson Jr. as his and-one completed a 24-2 stretch for the first 20-point advantage, 54-34, with 18:05 to play
