Men’s Soccer Ties Match in Second Half; HFU Falls to Alliance in Penalties in CACC Semifinal

PHILADELPHIA – Making its fourth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Semifinal appearance, the HFU men's soccer team erased a halftime deficit before eventually falling to Alliance in penalties on Friday afternoon at Tiger Field.

Alliance scored 3:53 ahead of the break, but it was Gavin Rowan (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) equalizing just under 10 minutes into the second half when Dakota Taylor (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) got in behind the defense and slid a pass across face for the sophomore to fire into the top corner from a tight angle.

Luke Shank (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) then helped send the game to penalties, making three saves in the final 10 minutes of regulation before making one stop in each overtime period.

Despite conversions by Joel Richmond (Bridgetown, Barbados/Church Farm), Rowan and Marcelo Ibarra (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) from the spot, it took just one miss to settle the outcome as Alliance went a perfect 5-for-5.

The result ended one of Holy Family's most successful ever seasons, with the Tigers' nine CACC victories setting a new program record and their second place matching the program record set in 2003. HFU's 12 overall wins were also its most since 2007.

Inside the Box Score
  • Taylor's assist extended his team lead to eight, good for fourth in the league and one shy of the program's single-season top-10 that features no student-athletes since 2007
  • Rowan's goal matched Taylor for second on the team with seven, which is tied for fifth in the CACC
  • Shank matched his season-high with seven stops
  • The match was nearly identical statistically, with HFU taking one more corner kick (6-5) and both teams recording eight attempts on net
