LAKEWOOD, N.J. – A potential game-tying 3-pointer off an inbounds pass following a made free throw in the final seconds hit the rim in the HFU men's basketball team's 58-61 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opening loss at Georgian Court on Wednesday night.
Individual Highlights
- David Robinson Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) fell one point shy of his fifth double-double in six games with a team-high 10 rebounds
- Aamir Hurst (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann Goretti) led the Tigers with 14 points, one shy of a season-best, on 6-of-11 shooting
- He added three steals, one shy of Eric Esposito's (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) game-high
- Esposito also led all players with a career-high five blocks
- Malik Archer (Philadelphia, Pa./Mathematics,Civics & Science Charter School (Beaver County CC)) and Rick'Keem Mixson (Linden, N.J./St. Mary of the Assumption (Raritan Valley CC)) (5-of-8 field goals) both scored 12 points
- Jake McGonigle (Ocean City, N.J./Wildwood Catholic) led all players with five assists

How it Happened
First Half
- HFU trailed momentarily, 4-5, 2:25 into the action, before Mixson and Archer both made two baskets as part of eight unanswered for a 12-5 advantage with 14:42 left in the opening half
- GCU responded with nine straight of its own to go back up by two midway through the first period
- Those would be the Lions' last points for 5:55, as back-to-back Hurst 3-pointers highlighted a 12-0 surge for the lone double-digit advantage, 24-14, 4:11 ahead of break
- Georgian Court closed the half on a 12-4 flurry though, making the score 28-26 entering the locker room
Second Half
- The second half was played within a single possession until a 7-1 run gave the Lions their largest lead at the time, 46-51, with 6:29 to go
- Back-to-back baskets by Hurst and Robinson Jr. got the Tigers as close as one with 3:11 showing, but two GCU scores quickly re-establish a five-point advantage, 50-55, just 29 seconds after
- The Lions added a free throw for their largest lead with just 1:27 left
- Robinson Jr. began a late push with two foul shots, which was cancelled out by a Georgian Court layup entering the final minute
- Hurst had two layups 15 seconds apart though, the second making it a two-point game, 56-58, following a steal with just 36 seconds remaining
- Hurst also forced a steal on the ensuing defensive possession, but Holy Family would give the ball away seconds later
- The Lions made 1-of-2 free throws for a 3-point advantage with 14 seconds on the clock, before a Mixson putback on a 3-pointer brought HFU within one with four seconds left
- Georgian Court made both of its foul shots, leading to the long inbounds pass and missed 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded
