Tigers Win Second Straight to Open Spring Season



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball team recorded its second shutout victory in as many matches to open the spring season after finishing off Dominican College by the score of 3-0 in the team's return to the Campus Center on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family set the tone for the match from the very beginning.  The Tigers jumped out to a 9-1 lead in the first set and never looked back.  As a team the Tigers totaled 13 kills in the opening set while committing only one error on the attack.  Holy Family used a late 7-0 run to make the score 22-6 before closing out the set with a 25-8 victory.
 
* In the second set the Tigers broke a 5-5 tie with an 8-0 run to take a 13-5 advantage.  Holy Family didn't relinquish the lead in the set and took advantage of 10 attack errors by Dominican.  The Tigers took the set, 25-16.
 
* Another big run early propelled the Tigers to a 25-11 win in the third and decisive set.  Leading 5-3, Holy Family rolled off eight straight points to grab a 13-3 lead.  The Tigers recorded a match-high 14 kills in the set, while holding Dominican to only six kills. 
 
News and Notes
 
* Sophomore Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the Tigers with 10 kills to record her second straight match with double-digit kills.  She totaled only two errors on 23 attempts to finish the match with an attack percentage of .348.
 
* Junior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) paced the offense with 30 assists to go along with 13 digs.  Silks is within reach of 3,000 career assists as she now has 2,965 in her career.  Only two other players in program history have surpassed 3,000 career assists. 
 
* Sophomore Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) finished with a team-high 18 digs.  Freshman Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) also finished in double-figures as she totaled a season-high 11 digs.
 
* Dominican's Emmalyn LaPier led the match with 11 kills to go along with eight digs.  Linda Armao Peng totaled 20 digs to record a match-high.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 22nd meeting between Holy Family and Dominican since the start of the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 13-9 versus the Chargers in the all-time series and have won the last five matches.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, March 3 as the Tigers travel to face Georgian Court University in a CACC contest.  Match time is set for 5 p.m. in a rematch of the 2019 CACC Championship Final.
