Tigers Fall Short in East Region Semifinals



Springfield, Mass. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball team fell short in the NCAA Division II East Regional semifinals as the fifth-seeded Tigers were defeated by top-seeded American International College, 3-0, on Friday night at Butova Gymnasium.  The Tigers conclude another historic season with a 25-5 overall record.

How It Happened
 
* With Holy Family leading 9-7 in the first half, AIC took control of the set with an 8-1 run to lead 15-10.  The Yellow Jackets maintained their lead the rest of the set to open the match with a 25-19 win.  Andrea Serra recorded seven of AIC's 16 kills in the set.
 
* In the second set, the Tigers grabbed a 14-12 lead after a quick 4-0 run fueled by three kills from fifth-year Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake).  As the set progressed, the Yellow Jackets eventually tied the set at 18-18.  Fifth-year Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) broke the tie with her fifth kill of the match which not only gave the Tigers the lead at 19-18 but also tied her for second place on the program's all-time kills list.  AIC responded with a 7-1 run to close out the set at 25-21.
 
* In the third set the Yellow Jackets scored the first four points and never looked back.  Leading 8-5, AIC went on an 8-1 run to grab a double-digit advantage at 16-6.  The Yellow Jackets took the set, 25-13.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* As previously mentioned, Covington totaled five kills in the match and in the process recorded career kill 1,398 to tie Jennifer O'Connor (2005-2008) for second place on the program's all-time kills list.  Covington also totaled four digs in the match to finish her career with 1,441 career digs; seventh most in program history.
 
* Johnson and sophomore Natasha Yanief (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) each totaled eight kills in the match.  For Johnson, the eight kills gave her 234 on the season setting a new career-high.  She also tallied one block assist to finish her career with 186; fourth most in program history.  For her career, Johnson concludes with 233 total blocks which is fourth-most in the record book.
 
* Senior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) recorded 21 assists to increase her program record to 4,420 in her career.  Silks also had 12 digs in the match to give her 1,121 digs in her career.
 
* Junior Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara), who entered tonight the Division II leader in service aces, recorded one ace in the match to give her 71 on the season.  Her 71 aces are the fifth-most in a single season in program history. Boylan also recorded 11 digs.
 
* For AIC, Ulrika Blomgren finished with a match-high 10 kills, while Serra finished with nine and 10 digs.  Amanda Rodriguez led the match with 15 digs.
 
Holy Family in the NCAA Tournament
The Tigers are now 4-3 all-time in the NCAA Tournament with three appearances in the program's history.  Each time the Tigers advanced to the regional semifinals or further becoming the only Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) women's volleyball program to do so multiple times.
 
Another Historic Season
Holy Family concludes the season with a 25-5 overall record which ranks second all-time in program history for most wins in a season.  The Tigers previously won 25 matches in 2011 and 2019.  Furthermore, the team's perfect 18-0 record in conference play this year was the first undefeated season in CACC play since the 2012 Dominican College Chargers went 19-0.
