Tigers Dismantle Wolves to End Skid



Philadelphia, Pa. –  The Holy Family University men's basketball team had five players score in double-figures as the Tigers defeated Cheyney University by the score of 90-64 in a non-conference contest on Thursday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.  The win snapped the Tigers six-game losing skid.

How It Happened
 
* A second half offensive surge by the Tigers turned out to be the difference in the game.  Already leading 35-32 at the 19:17 mark of the second half, Holy Family ripped off 13 straight points to take a commanding 48-32 lead.  Junior Rick'Keem Mixson (Linden, N.J./St. Mary of the Assumption (Raritan Valley CC)) gave the Tigers a 16-point advantage at the 13:58 mark after splitting a pair of free throws to cap the run.
 
* Holy Family led by double-figures the rest of the way and led by as many as 27 points on three separate occasions with the latter coming with 3:18 to play in regulation.  Junior Daniel Fleming (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield) hit a jumper to make the score 85-58. 
 
* In the first half, Cheyney scored the game's first seven points to lead 7-0 early on in the contest.  The Tigers went on to outscore the Wolves, 33-22, the rest of the opening half to hold a 33-29 lead at intermission.
 
* After shooting 28.5-percent (12-42 FG) in the first half, Holy Family turned things around in the second half and knocked down 21-of-38 attempts from the field for a 55.2 shooting percentage.  The Tigers also turned it on from deep range going 5-of-12 in the second half after only connecting on 3-of-20 in the first.
 
Inside the Box Score
 
* Mixson recorded his first double-double with the Tigers after scoring 15 points (5-9 FG) to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds.  He also dished out five assists and made three steals on defense.
 
* Fleming finished with 10 points and 10 rebounds to record his first career double-double.  He also led the team with three blocked shots.
 
* Junior Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) shot 8-of-11 from the field and 3-of-5 from deep range to finish with a season-high 19 points off the bench.  He also grabbed eight rebounds.
 
* Freshman Elijah Jakeman (Philadelphia, Pa./Abraham Lincoln) scored a season-high 12 points off the bench as he connected on 3-of-6 from three-point range.
 
* Junior Manny Toha (Newark, N.J./Marist) also scored in double-figures as he added 14 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists. 
 
* Freshman Dom Thomas (Mullica Hill, N.J./St. Joseph Academy) added seven points and seven rebounds, while fellow freshman David Robinson, Jr. (North Wales, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) added six points and five rebounds.
 
* For Cheyney, Jasisah Wright led all scorers with 31 points as he shot an impressive 10-of-15 from the field.  Wright also converted 9-of-11 from the free throw line.  Cliff St. Juste finished with 20 points (7-13 FG) to go along with a team-high eight rebounds.  Both Wright and St. Juste each had a team-high four steals on defense.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked just the third meeting between Holy Family and Cheyney in the all-time series.  The Tigers are now 2-1 versus the Wolves all-time.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Sunday, Dec. 19 as the Tigers travel to face Southern Connecticut State University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 2 p.m.
