Tigers Fall to Nationally Ranked No. 13 Chargers



West Haven, Conn. – The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team dropped a non-conference contest at nationally ranked No. 13 University of New Haven by the score of 22-4 on Saturday afternoon at Zolad Stadium.

Game Recap
 
* New Haven scored the game's first three goals, including two by Caroline Maher, to take an early 3-0 lead.  Senior Casey Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) scored the Tigers first goal of the game at the 24:16 mark to halt the Chargers opening run.  However, New Haven went on to score 10 unanswered goals over the next 16 minutes to grab a commanding 13-1 advantage.
 
* Holy Family followed with back-to-back goals by sophomores Mackenzie Santucci (Columbus, N.J./Northern Burlington Regional (RCBC)) and Emily Dalton (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia Academy) before the Chargers closed out the half with another two goals to lead 15-3 at the half.
 
* In the second half the Chargers outscore the Tigers, 7-1.  Santucci scored the Tigers' lone goal in the half for her second of the game.
 
News and Notes
 
* Santucci finished the game with three points (2G/1A) to lead the Tigers.  She also totaled three ground balls and caused one turnover. 
 
* Sophomore Julianna Fernandez (Pennsauken, N.J./Pennsauken) also had three ground balls on the afternoon and caused a turnover on defense.
 
* For New Haven, Maher and Julia Jette each scored four goals and tallied three assists each to finish tied for the game lead with seven points.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked just the second meeting between Holy Family and New Haven and the first since the Tigers' inaugural season in 2009.  The Chargers have won both contests in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
The Tigers are idle until Sunday, March 15 when the team returns to Connecticut to face the University of Bridgeport in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 1 p.m.
