Tigers Upended by Lions in CACC Action



Lakewood, N.J. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Georgian Court University by the score of 78-60 on Tuesday evening at GCU's Wellness Center.

Game Recap
 
* A big first quarter by the Lions turned out to be the difference in the game. Leading 8-6 at the 6:19 mark of the opening quarter, Georgian Court scored 12 unanswered points to grab a 14-point advantaged. The Tigers ended their drought when junior Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) knocked down a three-pointer in the final minute to make the score 20-9.
 
* Georgian Court swelled its lead to as many as 16 points in the first half after Tian Addison opened the scoring with a three-pointer to make the score 25-9.  The Lions maintained a double-digit advantage throughout the rest of the quarter and led 40-28 at the half.
 
* Holy Family cut the deficit to single digits on three occasions in the third quarter with the latter coming after a three-pointer by senior Casey Schweitzer (Lagrangeville, N.Y./Arlington) at the 2:43 mark made the score 50-42.  However, each time the Tigers came within single digits, the Lions responded with a score.  This time, GCU followed with eight straight points to close out the quarter extending the lead to 58-42.
 
* The Tigers were unable to escape the large GCU lead as the Lions held on to their double-digit advantage throughout the fourth quarter.  The Lions led by as many as 18 points in the quarter.
 
News and Notes
 
* Hayes and freshman Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) each recorded double-doubles for the Tigers.  For Hayes, it marked her first of the season as she led the team with a game-high 19 points and a season-high 10 rebounds.  She was a near perfect 7-of-8 from the free throw line on the night and also had a block and steal on defense.  Moore, the CACC Rookie of the Week, recorded her third double-double of the season after totaling 15 points and a season-high 17 rebounds.  She also had a block and steal on defense.
 
* Senior Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) added 12 points and four rebounds to go along with three blocks.
 
* Georgian Court also had a pair of players record double-doubles.  Safiyyah Lee and Leighanna Lister came off the bench and combine for 29 points and 21 rebounds.  Lee finished with 19 points and 11 boards, while Lister came away with 10 points and 10 rebound. Jada Atchison led the Lions with 18 points, eight rebounds and six assists.   
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 36th meeting between Holy Family and Georgian Court since the start of the 2002-03 season.  The Tigers are now 33-3 versus the Lions in that span. 
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to the friendly confines of the Campus Center on Saturday as the Tigers host Felician University in a CACC contest. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
