Tigers End Skid; Defeat Clippers, 82-74



Bronxville, N.Y. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team ended its season-long losing streak with an 82-74 victory at Concordia College in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) action on Sunday afternoon at the Meyer Athletic Center.  The Tigers had four players score in double-figures on the way to the victory.

Game Recap
 
* After falling behind 4-0 to start the game, Holy Family responded with 12 straight points to grab its first and only lead of the game.  The Tigers led by as many as 11 points in the opening half.  A three-pointer by freshman Nate Conyer (Pemberton, N.J./BCIT Medford) gave the Tigers a 35-24 advantage with 5:44 to play before the half.  Holy Family went on to take a 45-37 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* In the second half the Tigers' offense came out firing, outscoring the Clippers 14-4 the first 5:28 of the half.  Holy Family's run to open the second stanza gave the team its biggest lead of the game at 18 points.  Senior Branden capped the rally with a basket at the 14:32 mark to make the score 59-41.
 
* Holy Family maintained its double-digit lead until the final minute.  Back-to-back baskets by the Clippers made the score 78-70 with :52 seconds remaining in regulation.  On the following Holy Family possession, freshman Tayquan Busby (Baltimore, Md./Saint Frances Academy) converted a pair of free throws to increase the lead back to double-figures.
 
* The Clippers came within singles digits once more but time was against the home team.  Concordia scored with four seconds left as the Tigers ran out the clock to complete the one-sided victory.
 
News and Notes
 
* Sophomore Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) recorded his fourth double-double of the season and his third in his last four games.  Esposito finished with 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds.  He also totaled three steals and two blocks on defense.
 
* Junior Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook) also recorded a double-double, his third of the season.  Hoban totaled 14 points and a game-high 11 assists.
 
* Aughburns led all scorers with 22 points (11-17 FG) to go along with six rebounds and three blocks.
 
* Junior Devon Moore (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic (Merrimack College0) also scored in double-figures as he totaled 15 points and five rebounds on the afternoon.
 
* Busby finished with eight points, one shy of his season-high, while collecting a season-high six boards.  Conyer set a season-high with six points and tied his season-high with six rebounds.
 
* Jared Young led the Clippers with 17 points and six assists.  Jesse Breeding recorded a double-double with 16 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 11th meeting between Holy Family and Concordia dating back to the start of the 2009-10 season.  The Tigers are now 5-6 versus the Clippers in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 29 as the Tigers host Wilmington University in a CACC contest.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Campus Center Gymnasium.  The Tigers are accepting donations of brand new basketballs which will be donated to The 6th Man Project.  Fans that bring new basketball to help support the charity will be admitted free of charge.
