Tigers Overpower Firebirds, 16-3



Bryn Athyn, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's lacrosse team picked up its first victory of the season after defeating the University of the District of Columbia by the score of 16-3 on Wednesday afternoon at Nelson Field on the campus of Bryn Athyn College.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family scored the game's first 10 goals, in fact the Tigers held the Firebirds scoreless the entire first 30 minutes of the game to take a 10-0 lead into halftime.  Seniors Vanessa Pagliei (Linwood, N.J./Mainland Regional) and Dana Trevito (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) along with junior Casey Brown (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) all scored multiple goals in the first half.  Pagliei led the way with three first half goals.
 
* UDC scored the first two goals of the second half but the deficit was too much to overcome.  Holy Family went on to score six of the final seven goals of the game. 
 
News and Notes
 
* Holy Family recorded a season-high 36 goals, which led to a season-high 16 goals offensively.  Pagliei led the Tigers with a season-high four goals, while Brown finished the game with a season-best three scores. Brown also tallied two assists to finish the game with five points.
 
* Senior Devon Felix (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) filled the box score with two goals and two assists for four points.  She also led the team with five ground balls and three caused turnovers on defense.  With her four points in the game, Felix is now six points shy of 100 for her career.  She currently has 94 career points.
 
* Freshmen Maura Coleman (Lower Moreland, Pa./Little Flower), Emily Dalton (Philadelphia, Pa./Philadelphia Academy) and Abigail Zaleppa (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) all recorded their first collegiate goals in the victory.
 
* Sophomore Jenna Heath (Philadelphia, Pa./New Foundations Charter School) picked up her first collegiate victory in net for the Tigers after making seven saves.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the first-ever meeting between Holy Family and the District of Columbia.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Friday, March 15 as the Tigers host nationally ranked No. 7 Rollins College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and will be played at Nelson Field on the campus of Bryn Athyn College.
