Tigers Fall to Bears in Non-Conference Contest



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest to visiting New York Tech by the score of 71-63 in a non-conference match up on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.

Game Recap
 
* Holy Family opened the game with a 7-2 run, but momentum quickly shifted as New York Tech used a 17-5 run to grab a seven-point lead at the 8:20 mark of the half.  Jeffrey Hayden scored a layup basket to make the score 19-12.
 
* The Tigers tied the game at 21-21 when junior Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook) connected on a jumper with 3:29 to play until halftime.  However, the Bears responded with another run; this time a 10-0 surge to close out the half.  Hayden converted a pair of free throws with one second remaining to give the Bears a 31-21 lead heading into halftime.
 
* In the second half, New York Tech increased its lead to as many as 14 points on multiple occasions with the latter coming at the 6:06 mark.  A dunk by Auris Tverijonas gave the Bears a 54-40 advantage.
 
* Over the next minute the Tigers cut the deficit down to eight points as sophomore Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) capped the mini 6-0 run with three-pointer.  The Bears though increased their lead back to double-digits and maintained the advantage the rest of the way.  The Tigers came within six points of the lead in the final :20 seconds after a dunk by Esposito made the score 69-63.  Time though was against the Tigers and the Bears followed with a pair of free throws on their next possession to close out the scoring.
 
News and Notes
 
* Junior Brendan Hoban (Watertown, Mass./Millbrook) led the Tigers with a season-high 20 points to go along with seven assists and six rebounds.
 
* Senior Branden Aughburns (Queens, N.Y./The Canterbury School (Hampton Univ.)) totaled 14 points and six boards, while Esposito added nine points and seven rebounds.
 
* Senior Vincenzo Dalessandro (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan (Pace Univ.)) grabbed a season-high 14 rebounds marking the most in his Holy Family career.  He also totaled seven points.
 
* Hayden finished with a game-high 22 points to lead the Bears' offense.  He also finished with five assists and four boards.  Brandon Redendo added 16 points, while Tim Dawson contributed 14 points.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the fourth-ever meeting between Holy Family and New York Tech and the first since the 2011-12 season.  The Tigers are now 3-1 versus the Bears in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Dec. 7 as the Tigers resume Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at Wilmington University.  Game time is set for 3 p.m.
