Tigers Fall to Falcons in Regional Action



Waltham, Mass. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team dropped a non-conference contest at Bentley University, 74-52, in regional action on Sunday afternoon at the Charles A. Dana Center.

Game Recap

* Holy Family led 20-17 after the first quarter, however a 12-0 run to start the second by Bentley turned out to be the turning point in the game.  The Falcons held the Tigers scoreless for the first 6:21 of the quarter before sophomore Megan O'Connell (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Huberts) stalled the run with a layup that made the score 29-22. Bentley would go on to take a 33-26 lead into the locker rooms at halftime.
 
* In the third quarter the Tigers cut the deficit down to five points on three occasions but each time the Falcons responded to keep their lead more than two possessions.  The latter came at the 5:49 mark of the third quarter when freshman Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) scored a layup basket that made the score 37-32. Bentley followed with a 17-7 run the final five-plus minutes of the quarter to take a 54-39 lead by quarters end.
 
* Bentley led by as many as 23 points late in the fourth quarter after a three-pointer by Kari Brekke made the score 69-46. The Falcons outscored the Tigers in each of the final three quarters, including 16-6 in the game-turning second quarter.
 
News and Notes
 
* Moore led all scorers as she finished with a game-high 19 points to go along with four boards and three steals on defense.
 
* Senior Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) totaled 17 points, while grabbing a team-high eight rebounds.
 
* Junior Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) added seven points and seven rebounds.
 
* Bentley had four players score in double-figures, including Brekke and Monica Viapiano who each totaled 16 points.  Brekke also had eight rebounds in the game.  Megan Lewis added 11 points, while Katie Meriggioli recorded a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 14th meeting between Holy Family and Bentley dating back to the 2006-07 season.  The Tigers are now 2-12 versus the Falcons who have won the last 10 contests in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 18 as the Tigers resume Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play at city rival Chestnut Hill College.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
