Tigers' Rally Falls Short; Eliminated by Chargers

Lakewood, N.J. - The Holy Family University softball team saw its season come to an end but not without a valiant effort as the Tigers nearly erased an eight run deficit versus fourth-seeded Dominican College on day two of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament hosted by Georgian Court University.  The Chargers defeated the Tigers, 8-7.

Score: Dominican 8, Holy Family 7
Records: Holy Family (16-29) | Dominican (24-19)
Location: Lakewood, N.J. (SEI Investments Field)

How It Happened

* Holy Family trailed 8-0 after four innings but finally got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when senior Taylor Favinger (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester County Inst. of Tech.) went yard for the second time in the tournament.  Favinger's two-run home run marked her 14th of the season to cut the lead down to 8-2.

* The Tigers made things interesting in the seventh.  Back-to-back doubles by freshman Heather Bogardus (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) and sophomore Kelsey Marigliano (Seaford, N.Y./Plainledge) jump-started the rally.  After Favinger drew a walk, senior Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul) reached on a fielder's choice scoring Marigliano.  Sophomore Tyler Beccari (Havertown, Pa./Haverford (Temple)) followed with a bunt single to score a run cutting the lead to 8-5.  Two batters later senior Jen Trapp (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) singled in a run to make it 8-6.  Senior Alyssa Cudeyro (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) kept the inning going with a single of her own to load the bases.  With one out in the inning, junior Sam Klem (San Diego, Calif./Clairemont) drove a pitch to leftfield that nearly cleared the wall but had to settle for a sacrifice fly as Dominican's Rejene Bowe made the catch up against the wall.  The Chargers' Jennifer Paride, who was lifted after the first batter in the inning but then re-entered two batters later, managed to retire the final batter of the inning.

Game Notes

* Favinger's two-run homer in the fifth marked her 14th of the season setting a new single-season program record for most home runs in a season.  Favinger finishes her career as the program's all-time leader in home runs (28), RBI (123) and runs (144).  Her 17 career triples is tied for the most in program history and her 198 career hits are third most on the all-time hits list.

* The Tigers' senior class of Cudeyro, Favinger, Orozco and Trapp all finished their final game with two hits apiece.  The four have combined for 593 career hits.

* Orozco finishes her career with the third most victories in program history with 45. She also tied Jody Searfoss (2007-10) for second most appearances in program history with her start today with 101.  Offensively, her 167 career hits are fifth most in program history.

* Dominican's Alyssa Schwed finished the game 3-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI.
