Tigers Drop Doubleheader at Molloy

Rockville Centre, N.Y. - The Holy Family University softball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader at Molloy College in the team's first match up since returning from Florida last week.  The Tigers were edged, 5-4, in game one and came up short in game two, 4-2.

Game 1: Molloy 5, Holy Family 4
Game 2: Molloy 4, Holy Family 2
Records: Holy Family (0-12) | Molloy (11-9)
Location: Rockville Centre, N.Y. (Bob Klein Field)

How It Happened (Game 1)

* Holy Family ran into trouble early on in game one.  The Lions scored three runs combined in the first two innings with three run scoring hits.

* The Tigers got all three runs back in the top half of the third when senior Taylor Favinger (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester County Inst. of Tech.) sent a pitch over the left field fence for a three-run homer.  It marked her third of the season and 17th of her career.

* Molloy tacked on single runs in the third and the fourth innings to grab a 5-3 advantage.  Holy Family cut the lead to a single run in the top half of the sixth.  Back-to-back doubles by senior Jen Trapp (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) and Heather Bogardus (Ridley, Pa./Ridley) plated a run for the Tigers to move within one run of the lead.  Despite the late heroics the Tigers fell a run short as Molloy's Tonianne Larson retired Holy Family in the seventh to earn the win.

How It Happened (Game 2)

* It was a pitching duel through the first four innings as neither starting pitcher allowed a run until the fifth.  Junior Olivia Nolan (Shoreline, Wash./Shorecrest) gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead when she launched a ball over the left field fence for her first home run of the season.

* In the bottom of the inning Molloy tied the game when Olivia Banulski recorded an infield hit with the bases loaded to score Bernadette Mullane to tie the game.  In the sixth the Lions added three runs to grab a 4-1 lead.  Brianna Dalton and Sarah Glaser each had run scoring hits in the inning.

* The Tigers managed one run in the top half of the seventh thanks to another run scoring double by Bogardus.  Molloy's Jenna Turato was able to hold off a potential rally by the Tigers to pick up the win.

Game Notes

* Game 1:  WP - Larson (4-1) | LP - Hannah Miravich (Reading, Pa./Berks Catholic) (0-3)
* Nolan went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate; Bogardus (2-3) and Favinger (2-4) each had multiple hits.
* Favinger's homerun was her 17th of her career as she is now tied for third most in program history.
* Game 2: WP - Turato (5-5) | LP - Koreen Orozco (Whittier, Calif./St. Paul) (0-6)
* Orozco tied her season-high with five strikeouts as she went 5.2 innings.
* Nolan's solo home run in the fifth inning was her fifth of her career.
