Tigers Fall to Bears in CACC Quarterfinals



Bloomfield, N.J. - The season came to an end for the Holy Family University women's basketball team after falling to Bloomfield College, 75-43, in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) quarterfinals on Tuesday evening at the BC Gym.

How It Happened
 
* Leading 16-12 early in the second quarter, Bloomfield went on an 8-0 run to grab the game's first double-digit lead.  A layup by Kiamsha Bynes gave the Bears a 24-12 lead at the 5:27 mark.  Holy Family knocked the lead down to 24-18 with six straight points but Bloomfield managed to swell the lead back up to 12 points by halftime.  The Bears took a 30-18 lead into the locker rooms at the half.
 
* In the third quarter the Bears used a 13-5 run to increase their lead to as many as 20 points by the midway point of the quarter.  Bloomfield led 43-23 after Aanise Barnes scored a layup at the 4:52 mark. The Bears carried a 47-27 lead into the fourth quarter.  The Bloomfield offense went on to explode for 28 points in the final quarter.

Holy Family: Sophomore Elizabeth Radley (Hainesport, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) finished with a team-high 12 points to go along with eight rebounds… Senior Alexis Hofstaedter (Richboro, Pa./Council Rock South (William & Mary)) totaled 11 points and five assists, while junior Casey Thomas (Hammonton, N.J./Cedar Creek) added eight points and three boards… Freshman Anjelai Hayes (Woodbury, N.J./Woodbury) came away with seven points, three rebounds and three assists.
 
Bloomfield: Zhane Robinson recorded a double-double for the Bears as she totaled a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds… Bynes finished with 15 points, seven rebounds and a game-high eight assists… Deja Mckenzie came off the bench to score 13 points.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 29th meeting between Holy Family and Bloomfield since the start of the 2002-03 season.  The Tigers are now 20-9 versus the Bears in the series.  Tonight's match up was also the eighth meeting between the two teams in the CACC Tournament.  The Tigers still hold the edge in the postseason with a 5-3 record against the Bears.
 
All-CACC Recognition
Earlier in the day the conference office announced the 2017-18 women's basketball major awards and All-CACC teams. Hofstaedter and Thomas were both selected to the Third Team earning All-CACC honors for the first time in their respective careers.
 
Dishing it Out
Hofstaedter finished her career at Holy Family with 194 career assists to rank 13th on the all-time list in the program's NCAA Division II era.  She totaled 158 assists this season; third most in a single season since the start of the 2003-04 season.
