Tigers Set Program Record in Wins With 3-1 Victory at Post



Waterbury, Conn. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team ended the regular season with its 18th straight victory and as a result set a new program record with most wins in a season with 26 after defeating Post University, 3-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the Dunbar Center.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family struggled in the first set as the Tigers committed eight errors on the attack and only recorded a hitting percentage of .107, while Post connected on .450-percent of its attack attempts.  As a result the Eagles won the first set by the score of 25-17.
 
* Holy Family bounced back in the second set and finished the set with a .471 hitting percentage while recording 11 kills.  The Tigers went on to take the set in convincing fashion, 25-10. 
 
* From there the Tigers offense went on a run with 17 kills in the third set alone. Holy Family finished the match with 50 kills compared to the 33 by the Eagles.  The Tigers also took advantage of their strength on the serve by recording 11 aces to just one by the Eagles.  Holy Family leads the nation in aces this season with 258.
 
News and Notes
 
* Senior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) led the match with 19 kills to go along with four aces and seven digs. Her 19 kills brought her season total to 530 on the year setting a new career-high.  It also brings her within seven kills of the program's single season record of 537 set by Lauren Gosnell back in 2007. 
 
* Sophomore Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) finished the match with 11 kills and a .444 hitting percentage after committing only three errors on 18 attempts.
 
* Senior Canyce Riley paced the offence with a season-high 36 assists. 
 
* Junior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) finished with eight kills and a match-high five aces.
 
Setting a New Standard
Holy Family wrapped up the regular season on a program record 18-match winning streak.  The team's 18th win set a new program standard for most wins in a season with 26.  The team's previous best came in 2011 when the Tigers finished 25-11 overall after advancing to the CACC Championship match.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 21st meeting between Holy Family and Post dating back to the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 11-10 versus the Eagles in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family is set to host Felician University in the CACC quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 6.  The Tigers earned to top overall seed in the conference tournament, while the Golden Falcons are seeded fourth out of the North Division. Match time is set for 6 p.m. inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
