Tigers Set to Face Yellow Jackets in East Region Championship

West Haven, Conn. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team's historic season continues tonight as the fifth-seeded Tigers face sixth-seeded American International College in the NCAA Division II East Region Final.  Match time is set for 7 p.m. from inside Charger Gymnasium on the campus of the University of New Haven.
 
Tickets for tonight's championship match are $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens, children and students.  All ticket sales will take place at the Box Office located in the lobby of Charger Gymnasium.

How They Got Here - Holy Family
Holy Family is taking full advantage of its first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament.  The Tigers defeated fourth-seeded Molloy College, 3-0, in the quarterfinals and then went on to defeat top-seed and host New Haven, 3-1, in the semifinals.  Holy Family is the first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) program to advance to the women's volleyball regional final.
 
How They Got Here - American International
The Yellow Jackets are making their third straight trip to the regional final after defeating third-seeded Daemen College (W, 3-0) and second-seeded Adelphi University (W, 3-1).  American International won the region in 2016 and was last year's finalist.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight will be the sixth meeting between Holy Family and AIC since the start of the 2011 season.  The Tigers are 2-3 versus the Yellow Jackets in the all-time series after winning this year's regular season meeting, 3-1, at the Wildcat Regional Invitational.

* Senior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) will enter tonight's championship match needing 17 kills to reach 2,000 for her career.  She currently has 1,983 career kills; the most in program history. Also, Wassel is 13 digs shy of 1,500 for her career.  She currently has 1,487 career digs.
 
* Wassel is second among the Division II leaders with 635 kills and 4.96 kills per set.
 
* Holy Family has two players in the top-five in Division II in service aces.  Wassel leads the nation with 74 aces, while junior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) is fourth nationally with 60 aces. As a team, Holy Family ranks tops in Division II with 302 aces.
 
* Freshman Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) is fourth in Division II with 1,465 assists, which is also a single season program record.
 
What Happens Next
Tonight's winner will advance to the Division II Women's Volleyball Championship held at the A.J. Palumbo Center in Pittsburgh.  The eight region champions will begin play on Thursday, Nov. 29 in the national quarterfinals.
