Tigers Drop Season Opener at Merrimack



North Andover, Mass. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team dropped its season opener at Merrimack College by the score of 69-50 as the Warriors hosted the East Region Conference Challenge on Saturday afternoon at Hammel Court.

How It Happened
 
* Both teams battled back-and-forth in the first half with Merrimack holding the largest lead of seven points at the 6:31 mark (25-18) and at the end of the half (30-23).
 
* Merrimack opened the second half with a 9-2 run to increase its lead to 14 points at 39-25 when Ryan Boulter scored a layup at the 16:22 mark.
 
* Holy Family cut the deficit down to single digits with 13:37 to play when Patrick Robinson scored a layup to make the score 39-31.  That would be as close as the Tigers would get as the Warriors regained their double-digit advantage on the next possession. Merrimack maintained its double-digit lead the rest of the way leading by as many as 19 points by games end.
 
News and Notes
 
* Junior Vincenzo Dalessandro (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan (Pace Univ.)) led the Tigers with 15 points in his first game in a Holy Family uniform.  He also grabbed eight rebounds.
 
* Freshmen Patrick Robinson III (Chesterfield, N.J./Conwell Egan) and Dymir Montague (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) each scored in double-figures in their collegiate debut.  Robinson totaled 13 points and nine rebounds, while Montague added 12 points and four boards.
 
* Freshman Kharon Randolph (Philadelphia, Pa./Haverford School) led the team with 10 rebounds in his collegiate debut.  He also dished out a game-high six assists. 
 
* Boulter finished with a game-high 19 points to lead the Warriors.  The Warriors had four players score in double-figures, including Juvaris Hayes (16), Idris Joyner (13) and Khalief Crawford (12). Jaleel Lord totaled a game-high 15 rebounds.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fifth meeting between Holy Family and Merrimack dating back to the 2009-10 season.  The Tigers are now 1-4 versus the Warriors in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family will close out the East Region Conference Challenge on Sunday as the Tigers face American International College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is set for 12 p.m.
