Win Streak Extended to Eight as Tigers Shutout Bears



Bloomfield, N.J. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team extended its season long winning streak to eight as the Tigers shutout Bloomfield College, 3-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

How It Happened
 
* It was another dominating performance for the Tigers.  Holy Family recorded 49 kills on offense and in return the defense held the Bloomfield offense to just 11 kills with a .029 hitting percentage.  It marked the third lowest hitting percentage by an opponent this season.
 
* Holy Family once again recorded double-digit aces marking the fifth straight match to reach such feat. Freshman Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) (4) and junior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) (3) led the team.
 
* The Holy Family offense posted a .379 hitting percentage; second highest of the season.  The team only committed 13 attack errors on 95 total attempts.
 
* Holy Family won the first and third sets by identical 25-8 scores.  It marked the first time this season that the Tigers held to single digit points in multiple sets in a match.
 
News and Notes
 
* Senior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and sophomore Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) reach recorded double-digit kills and digs in the match.  Wassel led the team with 17 kills and 11 digs, while Covington recorded 11 kills and 10 digs. 
 
* Silks finished with a match-high 40 assists to go along with her four aces.  She also had four kills and six digs.
 
* Senior Jaime Bonner (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and Pesognelli each finished with seven kills on offense.
 
* Junior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) tied for the match lead with 11 digs on defense. 
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 22nd meeting between Holy Family and Bloomfield dating back to the start of the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 14-8 versus the Bears in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 9 as the Tigers welcome city rival University of the Sciences to the Campus Center for a CACC contest.  Match time is set for 6:30 p.m.
