Tigers Roll Past City Rival Devils, 3-0



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team continues to pick up victories as the Tigers have now won nine matches in a row after defeating city rival University of the Sciences, 3-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Tuesday night.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family took advantage of seven attack errors by the Devils in the first set to jump out to a 1-0 match lead.  The Tigers scored the first four points of the opener before the Devils responded with four straight points of the their.  However, Holy Family rallied for seven straight points to take control.  The Tigers went on to take the set, 25-14.
 
* The second set was a little closer but the Tigers never trailed and were never in danger of falling behind.  The Tigers used an 8-1 run late to grab a 19-9 lead.  The Devils came within three points of the lead at 21-18 before Holy Family closed out the set with four straight points. 
 
*  In the third set the Tigers once again used mini runs to capitalize off the Devils.  In fact, nine attack errors by the Devils aided the Tigers to the third set victory.  Leading 10-9, a mini 6-2 run gave the Tigers a 16-11 advantage.  Holy Family then went on to score the final six points of the set to secure the match.
 
News and Notes
 
* Senior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) led the match with 13 kills to go along with four total blocks (1BS/3BA).
 
* Sophomore Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) highlighted the night with a career-high eight service aces.  She helped lead the Tigers to 14 for the match marking the team's sixth straight match with double-digit aces.  Covington also had five kills and seven digs.
 
* Freshman Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) led the match with 31 assists.
 
* Senior Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) led the team with 15 digs setting a new season-high.  Her 15 digs brought her even closer to reaching the 1,000 career dig milestone.  Riley will enter her next match needing only 17 digs to reach 1,000.  She currently has 983 career digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 32nd meeting between Holy Family and USciences since the start of the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 19-13 versus the Devils in the all-time series after winning the last five matches.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 as the Tigers host CACC South foe Georgian Court University and non-conference opponent Molloy College in a tri-match.  The Tigers will face the Lions in a key conference match at 11 a.m. before facing the Molloy Lions at 3 p.m.
