Tigers Extend Win Streak to Six with Win at Wilmington



Newark, Del. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team had four players record double-digit kills as the Tigers came away with a 3-2 victory at Wilmington University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday night inside the WU Athletics Complex.

How It Happened
 
* The match went the full five sets after Wilmington tied the match with a 25-20 victory in set four.  The Tigers opened fifth and decisive set on a 7-1 run.  After giving the Wildcats a point on an attack error to make the score 7-2, the Tigers went on and scored the final eight points of the set to clinch the victory, 15-2. Holy Family capitalized on five Wilmington attack errors in the final surge.
 
* The Holy Family offense recorded 60 kills on the night; the third most tallied this season.  The Tigers were also recorded double-digit aces for the third straight match.  Holy Family tallied 15 against the Wildcats and has totaled 44 in its last three matches.
 
* On the defensive side the Tigers recorded a season-high 110 digs with sophomore Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) leading the way with a match-high and new career-high 26 digs.  Junior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) totaled 23 digs.  The Tigers also allowed just 29 kills; the fewest this season in a five-set match.
 
News and Notes
 
* Senior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) was one of four players to record double-digit kills in the match for the Tigers. She finished the match with 21 marking her third straight match with 20-plus kills. Covington added 14 kills, while junior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) added 12 kills and senior Jaime Bonner (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) tallied 10.
 
* Freshman Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) led the match with 53 assists marking her fifth match of 50-plus assists. She also recorded 17 digs to set a season-high.
 
* Senior Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) finished the night with 14 digs tying her season-high.
 
* Tonight's win marked the Tigers sixth straight victory tying their season-best streak. Holy Family is 12-1 in its last 13 matches.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 32nd meeting between Holy Family and Wilmington dating back to the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 15-17 versus the Wildcats in the all-time series. Holy Family has won five of the last six matches in the series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 4 as the Tigers host city rival Chestnut Hill College in a CACC contest. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
