Tigers Edged by City Rival Griffins, 2-1



Lafayette Hill, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to city rival Chestnut Hill College by the score of 2-1 on Wednesday night.

How It Happened
 
* Chestnut Hill scored the game's first goal to grab a 1-0 first half lead.  Tyler Johnson scored off a free kick in the 31st minute.
 
* Still leading early in the second half the Griffins doubled their lead when Pedro Dutra connected on a goal in the 65th minute.  Dutra received a pass from Matt Kehr who assisted on the play.
 
* Holy Family made things interesting in the 88th minute when sophomore Matt Flanagan (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) scored his third goal of the season to make the score 2-1.  Fellow sophomore Mohamed Elgayar (Philadelphia, Pa. (Egypt)/Northeast) served up a pass from 20-yards out to assist on the goal.
 
* Despite cutting the Griffins' lead in half, the Tigers were unable to find the equalizing goal, as time was not on their side.  Neither team managed a shot in the final two-plus minutes.
 
News and Notes
 
* Holy Family outshot Chestnut Hill, 15-10, in the game.  Sophomore Mike Smith (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) led the team with four shots, while junior Shane Holmes (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge (Harcum College)) tallied three.
 
* Junior goalkeeper Mark Tobin (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic (La Salle Univ.)) made four saves in net for the Tigers.
 
* Chestnut Hill goalkeeper Frank Maniscalco finished the game with six saves.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 12th meeting between Holy Family and Chestnut Hill dating back to the 2007 season.  The Tigers are now 9-3-0 versus the Griffins in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 as the Tigers travel to face Concordia College in a CACC contest. Game time is set for 12 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
