Tigers Defeat City Rival Rams for 14th Straight Win



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team extended its program record winning streak to 14 matches after defeating city rival Jefferson, 3-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon.

How it Happened
 
* The Holy Family offense produced 55 kills in the match as the Tigers recorded double-digit kills in each set, including 17 in the second set. 
 
* After dropping a close second set to the Rams (25-27) the Tigers bounced back with a 25-17 win in set three to take a 2-1 advantage in the match.  Holy Family trailed 10-6 in the third set and began chipping away at the Rams' lead.  Trailing 13-10, the Tigers went on 5-0 run to grab the lead. Holy Family closed out the set scoring seven of the final nine points.
 
* In the fourth set the Tigers had to once again chip away at the Rams' lead.  Holy Family grabbed the lead for good when sophomore Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) recorded a kill to make the score 20-19. With a slight edge at 22-21, the Tigers scored the final three points of the set to secure the win.
 
News and Notes
 
* Senior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) Covington combined for 36 kills.  Wassel finished with a match-high 23 kills to go along with 14 digs, while Covington finished with 13 kills and 22 digs to lead the team.
 
* Freshman Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) led the match with 44 assists.  She also totaled 14 digs on defense.
 
* Junior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) finished with nine kills while totaling six blocks (1BS/5BA).
 
* Junior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) finished with 19 digs.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the 35th meeting between Holy Family and Jefferson since the start of the 2003 season.  The win marked the Tigers' first win versus Jefferson (formerly Philadelphia University) since Oct. 6, 2011. The Tigers are now 8-27 versus the Rams in the all-time series.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Oct. 23 as the Tigers host Wilmington University in a CACC contest. Match time is set for 6 p.m.
