Tigers Fall to Shippensburg in Non-Conference Match Up



Shippensburg, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's soccer team dropped a non-conference contest at Shippensburg University by the score of 5-2 in a non-conference contest on Monday night at Robb Sports Complex.

How It Happened
 
* Colin Marks gave Shippensburg the game's first lead in the 15th minute when he tallied his second goal of the season. 
 
* Less than 10 minutes later the Tigers tied the game at 1-1 when freshman Mike Smith (Southampton, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored his team leading third goal of the season and second in as many games.  Shippensburg goalie Matt Harder went to clear the ball but it hit Smith who then corralled the loose ball and scored.
 
* The Raiders regained the lead in the 33rd minute when Jan Striewe scored his second goal of the season to break the 1-1 tie. Shippensburg took a 2-1 lead into the half and then went on to score three goals within the first 16 minutes of the second half. The Raiders led 5-2 by the 57th minute.
 
* Freshman Sean McCormick (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) scored his second goal of the season for the Tigers in the 67th minute for the game's final goal.

Holy Family recorded a season-high 12 shots with four coming on-goal… Smith (4) along with sophomore Gilbert Anokye (Philadelphia, Pa. (Ghana)/Northeast) (2) and Mohamed Elgayar (Philadelphia, Pa. (Egypt)/Northeast) (2) recorded multiple shots for the Tigers… Shippensburg controlled the corner kicks with six attempts to only two by the Tigers… The Raiders also committed 18 fouls in the game, while the Tigers only had three called against them.

Tonight marked the 11th meeting all-time between Holy Family and Shippensburg dating back to the 1999 season.  The Raiders improve their mark against the Tigers and are now 8-1-2.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 20 as the Tigers play host to the University of the District of Columbia.  Game time is set for 4 p.m. at Tiger Field.
