Tigers Knock Out Warriors; Advance to CACC Semifinals



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team will be heading to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) semifinals for the first time since 2011 after defeating Nyack College, 3-1, in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday night inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family dropped the first set by the score of 25-14 after Nyack recorded 12 kills on .370-percent hitting.  The Warriors took advantage of eight attack errors by the Tigers in the set.
 
* After the first set momentum quickly switched sides as the Tigers came out firing in the second.  Holy Family recorded 15 kills on an impressive .433-percent hitting.  Holy Family opened on a 10-2 run and never looked back.
 
* With the match tied at 1-1 the Tigers continued where they left off holding the Warriors to just four points the entire third set.  In fact, after recording 25 points in the first set the Warriors only totaled 24 points in the final three sets combined.  Holy Family cruised to a 25-4 victory in the third set and went on to take the fourth set, 25-12.

Holy Family: The Tigers were impressive across the board, including on the serve where the team totaled a season-high 18 aces… Junior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa., Lansdale Catholic) totaled a career-high seven aces, while sophomore Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz., Pinnacle) totaled six setting a career-high as well… Wassel finished with 21 kills on a .571 hitting percentage… Junior Jaime Bonner (Warminster, Pa., William Tennent) added seven kills, while Pesognelli finished with five… Junior Natalie Stewart (York, Pa., York Catholic) totaled a match-high 33 assists to go along with nine digs and four kills… Sophomore Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass., North Andover (Rivier College)) led the team with 12 digs and also had seven assists.
 
Nyack: Alexus Winters led the Warriors with eight kills, while Kyra Zuhlke finished with six kills… British Dawson totaled 11 digs on defense… Rachel Medin finished the match with 12 assists and four digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 19th meeting between Holy Family and Nyack dating back to the 2003 season.  The Tigers are now 12-7 versus the Warriors.  Tonight's match was also the first-ever meeting between the two schools in the CACC Tournament.
 
Career Milestone
In the second set of tonight's match Stewart surpassed 1,500 assists in her career becoming just the fourth player in program history to reach such feat.  She now has 1,524 career assists.
 
What Now?!
Holy Family will now face the top-seed from the North Division, Caldwell University, in the CACC Semifinals.  The Cougars defeated Goldey-Beacom College, 3-0, in their quarterfinal match. The semifinals will take place on Saturday, Nov. 18 in Newark, Del. as Wilmington University will serve as tournament host for semifinals and finals.
