Tigers Drop Regional Clash With Nationally Ranked Warriors



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team suffered an 85-69 loss to nationally ranked No. 18 Merrimack College on the final day of the CACC/NE10 Tip-Off Challenge on Sunday afternoon inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
 
* Despite shooting 39.4-percent from the field in the first half, Holy Family converted 11-of-13 from the free throw line and controlled the boards at a 24-16 margin to build a one-point halftime lead in a back-and-forth first half.
 
* Merrimack pulled away in the second half thanks to sharp shooting, especially from Ryan Boulter who connected on 7-of-10 from the field scoring 20 of his game-high 38 points in the final 20 minutes.  Boulter led the Warriors with four three-pointers in the second half as they shot 8-of-15 from deep range.
 
* The Warriors led 62-61 with less than 10 minutes to play in regulation and went on to use a 16-1 run over a six-minute span to pull away from the Tigers.  Devon Moore capped the run after splitting a pair of free throws that made the score 78-62 with 3:26 to play. 
 
Inside the Box Score
Holy Family: The Tigers had three players score in double-figures… Sophomore Maliq Sanders scored 14 points to go along with eight rebounds… Junior transfer Jalen Thompson controlled the boards as he totaled 18 while scoring 14 points… Freshman Terrell Jones finished with 13 points.
 
Merrimack: Boulter led all scorers with 38 points as he shot 14-of-20 from the field, including 8-of-14 from deep range… He also totaled seven rebounds and three assists… Juvaris Hayes paced the offense for the Warriors as he dished out 17 assists to go along with eight rebounds, five steals and five points… Idris Joyner came off the bench to score in double-figures finishing with 10 points on 5-of-10 shooting.
 
All-Time Series
Today marked the fifth meeting all-time between Holy Family and Merrimack.  The Warriors are now 4-1 versus the Tigers in the series.
 
Controlling the Boards
The 18 rebounds by Thompson marked the most boards by a Holy Family player in the last eight years.  Former standout Justin Swidowski recorded 20 rebounds in overtime versus Assumption College back on Dec. 30, 2009.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Nov. 15 as the Tigers host Shepherd University in a non-conference contest. Game time is set for 8 p.m.
