Tigers Wrap Up Crimson Hawk Invitational



Indiana, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team came up short on the final day of the Quality Inn Crimson Hawk Invitational dropping its final two matches of the tournament on Saturday.  The Tigers fell to Ursuline College, 3-0, before coming up short against host, Indiana University (Pa.), 3-1.
 
Ursuline 3, Holy Family 0 (21-25, 14-25, 18-25)
In the team's opening match of the day, sophomore Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) once again led the Tigers on the attack as she finished with 10 kills to go along with seven digs.  Freshman Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) added five kills and six digs, while sophomore Kelly Bergen (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) led the team with 13 digs.  Sophomore Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) came away with 10 set assists and 11 digs. 
 
For Ursuline, Victoria Henderson finished with a match-high 11 kills while recording eight digs.  Makayla Windau added eight kills and a match-high 17 digs, while Katelyn Selleny finished with 23 set assists and 14 digs.
 
Indiana (Pa.) 3, Holy Family 1 (11-25, 25-21, 9-25, 17-25)
In the final match of the day for Holy Family, host Indiana made the Tigers work on the attack.  The Crimson Hawks recorded 105 digs after the Tigers attempted 145 total attacks in the match.  Indiana took the first set by the score of 25-11 before Holy Family tied things up with a 25-21 victory in set two.  However, the Crimson Hawks took control of the match with a 25-9 victory in the next set and went on to clinch the victory with a 25-17 win in the fourth set.
 
Wassel recorded double-digit kills for the fourth straight match as she led the team with 14 kills.  She also recorded a team-best 24 digs on defense.  Riley added five kills and 16 digs, while Bergen tallied 15 digs.  Junior Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) totaled 24 set assists while coming up with 10 digs.
 
For IUP, Natalie Cignetti and Lily McWilliams each led the Crimson Hawks with 12 kills apiece.  Cignetti also added 20 digs, while McWilliams chipped in 22 digs. Jess Marut led the match with 35 digs, while Lindsay Moeller led the way with 27 set assists.
 
Holy Family returns to action on Wednesday, Sept. 7 as the Tigers travel to face Kutztown University in a non-conference contest.  Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
