Wassel Ties Career-High With 25 Kills in Victory at Kutztown



Kutztown, Pa. - Sophomore Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) tied her career-high with 25 kills as the Holy Family University women's volleyball team defeated Kutztown University by the score of 3-1 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday night at Keystone Arena.

How It Happened
After dropping the first set to the Golden Bears, the Tigers came soaring back winning three straight sets to take the match.  In the second set both teams battled back-and-forth until the Tigers scored five unanswered points to take a 13-8 advantage.  Kutztown followed with a 5-0 run to tie the set before the Tigers scored seven of the next nine points. Wassel recorded eight kills in the set to lead the Tigers to a 25-19 victory.  In the third set Holy Family led from beginning to end as the Tigers came away with a 25-18 triumph.  Leading 17-15, the Tigers scored six straight points to grab its biggest lead at 23-15.  Freshman Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) tallied a pair of kills to help the rally.  Holy Family capped the match with a 25-17 victory in the fourth set and once again led the entire way. 
 
Inside the Box Score
Holy Family: Wassel record double-digit kills for the fifth time in as many matches this season.  She tied her career-high with 25 kills and also totaled 22 digs. Pesognelli tallied a season-high 14 kills with an impressive attack percentage of .520 to lead the team.  Junior Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) tallied a career-high 47 assists while recording 11 digs on defense.  Sophomore Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and Kelley Bergen each finished with 18 digs, while sophomore Jaime Bonner (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) tallied 10 digs.
 
Kutztown: Brittney Moyer led the Golden Bears with 13 kills to go along with 17 digs.  Madison Brake led the team with 22 digs, while Anna Conti finished with 34 assists and seven digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight's match marked the seventh meeting between the two teams and the first since the 2012 season.  The victory improved the Tigers all-time record versus Kutztown, which is now at 3-4.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action this weekend as the Tigers compete in the Wildcat Regional Invitational hosted by Wilmington University.  Holy Family opens the two-day tournament on Friday versus Franklin Pierce University (3 p.m.) and Le Moyne College (7 p.m.).
