Tigers Fall to Setters in Non-Conference Match



Pleasantville, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team dropped a non-conference contest at Pace University by the score of 3-0 on Thursday night inside the Goldstein Fitness Center.

How It Happened
Pace got the upper hand in the match after coming away with a 26-24 victory in the first set.  Both teams battled back-and-forth with the biggest lead in the set belonging to Holy Family early in the set.  Back-to-back kills by sophomores Jaime Bonner (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) gave the Tigers a 6-3 lead. 
 
Late in the set, Pace led 24-22 before Holy Family rallied back to tie the set, however the Setters went on to score the next two points to pick up the first victory of the match (26-24). 
 
In the second set, Holy Family opened with a 3-0 run but from there Pace grabbed the momentum and outscored the Tigers, 25-12, the rest of the way to go up 2-0 in the match.  A 5-0 run by the Setters turned things around in the set after the Tigers led 4-2.  From there Pace never relinquished the lead.
 
Holy Family nearly overcame a number of deficits in the third set.  The Tigers trailed 21-15 late and went on to score five straight points to come within one point of the lead.  Holy Family took advantage of four different errors by the Setters during that span.  However, Pace bounced right back and scored the final four points in the set to take the match after a 25-20 victory.  Earlier in the set the Tigers trailed 10-4 and rallied with five straight points to cut the deficit down to 10-9.
 
Inside the Box Score
Holy Family: Wassel led the Tigers with 11 kills to go along with 10 digs, while Bonner contributed nine kills and four digs.  Junior Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) totaled 27 assists and 10 digs.  Junior Cecilia Weir (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant) led the team with 12 digs, while freshman Nicole Cripps (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) added 11 digs.
 
Pace: Amy Vicic led the Setters with nine kills, while Claudia Fontanet and Kathleen Benson each added seven kills.  Fontanet also collected 10 digs.  Danielle Vaiano led the match with 16 digs, while Samantha Nidini finished with 24 assists and 15 digs.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 1 as the Tigers host Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.  Match time is slated for 5:30 p.m. inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
