Tigers Split on Day One of Crimson Hawk Invitational



Indiana, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team split its two matches on day one of the Quality Inn Crimson Hawk Invitational hosted by Indiana University (Pa.) on Friday evening inside the Memorial Field House.  The Tigers were defeated by West Liberty, 3-0, before bouncing back to defeat Alderson Broaddus, 3-0. 
 
West Liberty 3, Holy Family 0 (11-25, 10-25, 22-25)
West Liberty finished the match with an impressive attack percentage of .500 as the Hilltoppers recorded 33 kills in the match on 44 total attacks.  West Liberty also took advantage of 21 errors by Holy Family to come away with the three-set victory. 
 
Sophomore Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) led the Tigers with 14 kills in the season opener to go along with 13 digs.  Sophomore Kelly Bergen (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) also totaled double-digit digs with 10. 
 
For West Liberty, Amanda Leonard totaled a team-high eight kills while collecting 11 digs on defense.  Raimey Benson added seven kills and six digs, while Stephanie Leonard totaled eight block assists.
 
Holy Family 3, Alderson Broaddus 0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-17)
In the team's second match of the evening, Wassel supplied the Tigers with plenty of offense as she totaled a match-high 19 kills.  She also totaled nine digs and two service aces.  Freshman Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) finished with seven kills while totaling six blocks (1BS/5BA).  Bergen totaled double-digit digs with a match-high 15.  Junior Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) finished the match with 21 assists to go along with three block assists and six digs.
 
Next Up
Holy Family wraps up the Crimson Hawk Invitation on Saturday as the Tigers face Ursuline College (10 a.m.) and host Indiana (12 p.m.).
