Bell, Hudson-Emory Lift Tigers Over Assumption, 76-69



Albany, N.Y. - Junior transfer Dyllon Hudson-Emory (Harrisburg, Pa./Bishop McDevitt) and freshman Randy Bell (Sicklerville, N.J./Timber Creek) combined to score 62 points as the Holy Family University men's basketball team rallied down the stretch to defeat Assumption College in a non-conference contest on day one of the East Region Classic hosted by the College of Saint Rose on Saturday afternoon inside the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

How It Happened
In a close game throughout, Holy Family took control down the stretch.  Trailing by one point (60-59) with 3:08 to play in the second half, Hudson-Emory converted a pair of free throws that tied the game and gave the Tigers the lead.
 
On the following Assumption possession, Hudson-Emory recorded a steal that led to a fast-break layup by Bell as the Tigers grabbed a 63-60 lead with less than three minutes on the clock.  After a pair of free throws by the Greyhounds cut the lead back down to one point, Holy Family responded eight unanswered points to grab its biggest lead of the game.  Bell jump started the run with a three-pointer and then capped the scoring with a dunk with  :52 seconds remaining in regulation that made the score 71-62.
 
Holy Family outscored Assumption, 13-7, the final two minutes of regulation to close out the game.   
 
Inside the Box Score
Holy Family: The top two scorers in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) continued their offensive surge to start the season… Bell led all scorers with a season-high 35 points for his third 30-plus point performance of the year… He also finished the game with four rebounds and two steals… Hudson-Emory totaled 27 points while collecting nine rebounds off the glass… He added five assists and three steals to the mix…Redshirt freshman Trai Greer (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) and freshman Maliq Sanders (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) each finished with five points, four rebounds and two steals… Sanders also contributed five assists.
 
Assumption: The Greyhounds had four players scored in double-figures, including Damien Rance who led the team with 18 points while recording seven rebounds and two blocks…Declan Soukup added 16 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Marcu Murray chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double… Austin Kearney produced 10 points and four rebounds off the bench.
 
All-Time Series
Today's game marked the ninth meeting all-time between Holy Family and Assumption dating back to the 2007-08 season when the two teams first met in the NCAA East Region quarterfinals.  The Tigers are now 4-5 in the series against the Greyhounds.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Sunday as the Tigers close out the East Region Classic versus host Saint Rose in a non-conference tilt.  Game time is slated for 3 p.m.
