Tigers Drop Division Match to Wildcats, 3-1



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest to Wilmington University by the score of 3-1 on Friday night inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.

How It Happened
After dropping the first set by the score of 25-17, Holy Family bounced back to take set two by the same score.  The Tigers trailed the second set 16-14 before pulling of eight straight points to grab a 22-16 advantage.  Sophomore Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) provided the team with three kills during the span, while sophomore Kelly Bergen (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) produced a pair of aces on the serve. 
 
The run ended on an attack error by the Tigers' offense but continued with three straight points to close out the set and tie the match at 1-1.  Down the stretch Holy Family outscored Wilmington, 11-1, to win the set, 25-17.
 
Despite coming back and tying the set, the Tigers dropped the next two sets by the score of 25-21 and 25-13 as the Wildcats completed the 3-1 victory.
 
Inside the Box Score
Holy Family: Wassel tallied a match-high 25 kills as the surpassed the 400-kill mark for the season becoming the fifth player in program history to record 400-plus kills in a single season.  Her 422 kills this season is currently third most in a single season in the program's record book. She also finished the night with 14 kills and three total blocks (1BS/2BA).  Freshman Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) finished with nine kills with a .381 attack percentage and had two block assists, while sophomore Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) filled the stat sheet with seven kills, 12 assists and 15 digs. Bergen led the team with 19 digs to go along with three aces.
 
Wilmington: Allison Briley led the Wildcats with 10 kills to go along with 11 digs.  Miranda Shaw and Jill Braunsberg each totaled 12 assists.  Jenna Brown led the team with 13 digs, while Eile Harris totaled four blocks (2BS/2BA). 
 
All-Time Series
Tonight's match marked the 29th meeting all-time between Holy Family and Wilmington.  The Wildcats improve to 17-12 versus the Tigers after the victory.

Next Up
Holy Family returns to action tomorrow as the Tigers head north to face the reigning CACC champion Post University Eagles.  Match time is slated for 2 p.m. in Waterbury, Conn.
