How it Happened
Mercy scored the game's lone goal in the 44th minute, which turned out to be the difference.  Ileen Mejia scored her second goal of the season after receiving a pass from Alyssa Iannuzzi inside the box.  Mejia's shot found the lower left corner of the net to give the Mavericks a 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

Holy Family nearly tied the game in the opening minutes of the second half.  The Tigers received an indirect kick as freshman Casey Rodgers (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) sent a shot from just outside the box that hit off the post.

Later in the half the Tigers had another opportunity to tie the game but a shot by senior Ashley Shackleford (Burlington, N.J./Holy Cross HS) also hit the post in the 56th minute.  Senior Samantha O'Donnell (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) collected the rebounded ball but her attempt sailed just wide of the net.

Holy Family had one last chance to find the equalizing goal in the final minute.  Rodgers attempted a shot that was on target but Mercy goalkeeper, Ashley Price, reached up high to make the save and preserve the shutout.  Price made five saves in net for the Mavericks.

Holy Family goalkeeper, senior Sienna Smith (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Regional), also made five saves in net as she faced 11 shots by Mercy.

All-Time Series
Today's match up marked just the second meeting all-time between Holy Family and Mercy.  The Mavericks also won the series opener back in 2014.
