Holy Family Athletics Celebrates 30th Year

Philadelphia, Pa. - Holy Family University will be celebrating its 30th year of Athletics with the 2015-16 season.  The year-long celebration begins today as the department unveiled its 30th Anniversary logo, which will be the official logo for this academic year.

"This is going to be a year of commemoration and celebration," said Assistant Vice President of Athletics Sandra Michael.  "We will celebrate our 30th anniversary of Holy Family University athletics throughout the academic year.  We are going to spend this season honoring our past and remembering all the great accomplishments our student-athletes, coaches and teams achieved.  At the same time, we're going to continue to look forward to our future and the next 30 years."

The department of athletics first competed in the NAIA beginning with the 1986-87 academic year.  The department started with four sports, including men's and women's basketball, men's soccer and softball.  For the next 14 years Holy Family competed in the NAIA.  It wasn't until the 1999-2000 season that the department began the transition to NCAA Division II.

On this date 16 years ago, Michael announced that Holy Family was accepted into the NCAA Division II as a provisional member until the start of the 2003-04 season.  Due to that, Holy Family retained membership in the NAIA until then.

Holy Family's 30th Anniversary celebration will include a variety of activities throughout the 2015-16 academic year, including special projects, social media posts, historical facts and trivia and top moments from Holy Family's history.

The 30th Anniversary logo was designed by Tim Rice of Royal Rooster Design Co. out of West Des Moines, Iowa.
