Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers Win Thriller in Overtime, 2-1

Philadelphia, Pa. - Sophomore Mariano Cepeda (Philadelphia, Pa. (Argentina)/Roman Catholic) scored the game-winning goal in the 101st minute to lift the Holy Family University men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over visiting Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Monday afternoon at Tiger Field.

The win snapped the Tigers seven-game losing streak improving to 1-7-0 overall and 1-3-0 in conference action.  Nyack is now 3-4-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the CACC after suffering its first conference defeat of the season.

The Tigers didn't need much time in the second overtime period to seal the deal on their first win of the season.  Junior Christopher Tracey (Abington, Pa./Abington) started the game-winning play as he found senior Aiah Mbriwa (Abington, Pa./Philmont Christian Academy) on the right side of the field.

Mbriwa sent a cross pass from the right to a wide-open M. Cepeda who beat his defender and followed with a shot from the left side of the box.  His shot found the back of the net hitting off the right corner post as it crossed the goal line.

Nyack scored the game's first goal in the 31st minute when freshman Raul-Felipe Ferreira connected on his first collegiate goal to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

Minutes later the Tigers were rewarded a penalty kick after a foul by Nyack.  Senior Tom Kostick (Philadelphia, Pa./Roman Catholic) fired the free kick but freshman goalkeeper Wiktor Lasota made the stop.  C. Tracey quickly collected the rebounded ball, but his shot sailed high over the net. Lasota finished the game with seven saves for the Warriors.

Holy Family went on to tie the game early in the second half when senior Kevin Pohl (Trevose, Pa./Father Judge) connected on a header off a corner kick opportunity by junior Justin Hiltwine (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge).  It marked K. Pohl's first goal of the season in the 58th minute.

Junior goalkeeper Richard Ongaro (Columbus, N.J./Notre Dame/VCU) made four saves in net for the Tigers after facing 11 shots by the Warriors.

Holy Family outshot Nyack, 19-11, setting a new season-high on shots.  The Warriors held the edge on corners by a 9-6 margin.

Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 30 as the Tigers host Georgian Court University in a CACC contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m. at Tiger Field.
