Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Tigers Fall to Dominican, 3-2

Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at Dominican College by the score of 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.  The Chargers won the match by the scores of 25-23, 20-25, 25-21, 20-25, 15-12.

Holy Family is now 2-12 overall and 1-3 in the CACC, while Dominican improves to 2-13 overall and 2-2 in conference action.

Freshman Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) led the Tigers with a season-high 23 kills to go along with four service aces and 14 digs.  Senior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) also recorded double-digit kills as she finished the match with 12 kills, three service aces and six dis.

Freshman Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) totaled 26 digs, while sophomore Cecilia Weir (Warminster, Pa./William Tennant) finished with 13. Sophomore Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) and freshman Natalie Stewart (York, Pa./York Catholic) combined for 38 assists.  Brien totaled 20 to go along with six digs, while Stewart finished with 18 and five digs.

For Dominican, Kera Dexter led the Chargers with 15 kills after recording a .279 attack percentage.  Cortney Yeoman added 11 kills, while Kelly Murphy produced 10 kills.  Natalia Perez led the team with 21 digs.

Holy Family trailed 2-1 in the match and rallied with a victory in set four to force a decisive fifth set.  Holy Family trailed only momentarily in the fourth set when Dominican opened with a service ace by Kayla Rosario.

Holy Family followed with four straight points to take control of the set and went on to lead by as many as seven points when senior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) recorded an ace to make the score 11-4.  That ace by Herring turned out to be her 200th of her career becoming the second player in program history to record 200 career aces.

Herring currently ranks second on the all-time list and trails only Aimee Drabyn (2007-2010) for most in program history.  Drabyn recorded 205 aces in her four-year playing career.

Holy Family went on to win the set by scoring the final three points, including back-to-back kills from freshman Jaime Bonner (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) and Wassel.  An attack error by the Chargers gave the Tigers their 25th point to win the set.

In the fifth set, Dominican opened with an 8-1 run to take control of the set.  The Tigers came within one point of the lead after three straight points late in the set made the score 13-12.  However, that would be as close as the Tigers would get as Dominican closed out the match with two straight points.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 29 as the Tigers host Wilmington University in a CACC contest.  Match time is slated for 7 p.m. inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.
