Tigers Drop CACC Doubleheader to Dominican



Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Holy Family University softball team dropped a pair of Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contests at Dominican College by the scores of 10-0 and 10-2 on Saturday afternoon at the DC Softball Field.
 
Holy Family is now 14-11 overall and 14-10 in the CACC, while Dominican improves to 23-15 overall and 15-5 in conference action.
 
Game One: Dominican 10, Holy Family 0
 
It was a pitching duel for the first three and half innings of action in game one.  Holy Family starter, sophomore Bailey Walters (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs), held Dominican hitless through the first three innings.  However, the Chargers' offense went on to score 10 runs in the fourth inning off seven hits. 
 
Shannon Truppi gave Dominican a 3-0 lead after a two-run single following a RBI single by Anne Shiebler.  Later in the inning, Elontay Collins cleared the bases with a three-run double to increase the lead to 8-0.  Later in the inning, Truppi received another RBI after a bases loaded walk.  She finished the game 1-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored.
 
Collins went on to hit a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and two runs.
 
Madison Dove (10-5) earned the win after scattering three hits in five innings of work.  She finished the game with four strikeouts.
 
Walters (6-5) allowed the ten runs (8 earned) in four innings off seven hits.  She also walked four and struck out two batters.  At the plate, Walters was 2-for-2 with a pair of singles. 
 
Sophomore Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) recorded the Tigers other hit as she finished 1-for-2. 
 
Game Two: Dominican 10, Holy Family 2
 
In game two, Dominican led 3-0 early on after three runs in the second inning.  The Chargers added another pair of runs in the third after run scoring hits by Jillian Regan and Anne Shiebler. 
 
The Tigers finally got on the board in the fourth inning after three straight one-out singles by freshman Taylor Favinger (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester County Inst. of Tech.), Walters and junior Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel) who drove in the lone run of the inning. 
 
Dominican tacked on another pair of runs in the fourth to increase its lead to 7-1.
 
In the fifth, freshman Jenna Vasquez (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in freshman Tori Hernandez (Benton, Ark./Bryant) for the Tigers' final run of the game. Hernandez finished the game 2-for-2 with a run and a double.
 
In the bottom of the sixth, Dominican scored three more runs for the 10-2 win.  Shannon Haukap highlighted the inning with a two-run double as she advanced to third on the throw.  She then scored on a wild pitch to end the game.
 
Jenna Maska (10-4) picked up her tenth win of the season for the Chargers.  In six innings of work, Maska allowed two runs off five hits.  She went on to strike out three batters.
 
Senior Sarah Chilutti (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (0-1) made her first start of the season for the Tigers.  Chilutti allowed ten runs (9 earned) in 5.1 innings of work after 11 hits by the Chargers.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, April 22 as the Tigers travel to face Pace University in a non-conference doubleheader.  Game one is slated for 3 p.m.
