Newtown, Pa. - The Holy Family University softball team picked up another pair of wins at home as the Tigers defeated visiting Nyack College by the scores of 5-4 and 4-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Helen Randle Park.
Â
Holy Family improves to 12-7 overall and 12-6 in the CACC, while Nyack is now 5-20 overall and 3-11 in conference play.  The Tigers designated today's games a charity doubleheader for ovarian cancer. The team wore green jerseys and has been raising funds all week to support research. You could still help the Tigers by making a donation by clicking the following link:

The Holy Family offense exploded for three home runs on the afternoon. Sophomore
Bailey Walters (Ridgecrest, Calif./Burroughs) and freshmen
Alyssa Cudeyro (Sicklerville, N.J./Washington Twp.) and
Taylor Favinger (Deptford, N.J./Gloucester County Inst. of Tech.) went deep for the Tigers. Walters hit a three-run shot in game tow, while Cudeyro connected on a three-run shot in game one. Favinger also homered in the opener.Â
Â
Game One: Holy Family 5, Nyack 4Â
In the opener, Favinger gave the Tigers an early 1-0 lead when she hit her fourth home run of the season, a solo shot, with two outs in the first inning.Â
Â
However, in the second inning the Warriors rallied for four runs. With the bases loaded, junior Elyanna Rivas drew a walk to push home the Warriors first run. Redshirt freshman Aferdita Sinanaj followed with a double clearing the bases to give Nyack a 4-1 advantage.
Â
Walters, who started the game for the Tigers, lasted 1.2 innings as freshman
Morgan Maida (Eatonville, Wash./Eatonville) entered in relief and retired the final out of the inning.
Â
Holy Family didn't trail long though as the Tigers responded with three runs in their half of the second inning all coming via the long ball. With back-to-back singles by freshman
Jennifer Trapp (Castle Rock, Colo./Douglas County) and junior
Alexis Daubert (Stratford, N.J./Sterling), Cudeyro stepped up with two outs and launched a three-run homer to tie the game. It was Cudeyro's second home run of the season.
Â
The score remained 4-4 until the bottom half of the seventh inning when the Tigers won the game in walk-off fashion. Trapp led the inning off with a single then advanced to second on a wild pitch.  She finished the game 2-for-3 with two runs. Â
Â
Two batters later, junior
Claudia Boggi (West Chester, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) reached on an error by the centerfielder as Trapp moved on to third base.Â
Â
After another out in the inning, sophomore
Brianna Scotto (West Babylon, N.Y./West Babylon) singled in Trapp for the game-winning run as the Tigers picked up the one-run victory.
Â
Maida (2-2) received the win in a relief effort as she went 5.1 scoreless innings. She scattered three hits, walked four and struck out two batters to earn her second win of the season.
Â
Â
Sophomore Ashley Manger (2-9) went the distance for the Warriors as she allowed five runs (4 earned) in 6.2 innings of work. She gave up five hits, but struck out five batters.
Â
Game Two: Holy Family 4, Nyack 1Â
In game two, Walters returned to the pitching circle and kept the Nyack offense in check. Walters didn't allow a single hit through the first five innings. The Warriors got the Walters in the sixth inning as Sinanaj came through with the first hit of the day for Nyack. She doubled as senior Kelsey Lyons advanced to third after drawing a walk prior.Â
Â
Freshman Victoria Triozzi followed with a single that scored Lyons to tie the game at 1-1. The single by Triozzi turned out to be the final hit allowed by Walters.Â
Â
Holy Family scored the game's first run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Trapp came through with a two-out single scoring freshman
Jenna Vasquez (Newark, Del./Caravel Academy). Junior
Kristine Casey (Newark, Del./Caravel), who walked before Trapp's at-bat, was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second base.
Â
With the game tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth, Walters helped her own cause as she hit her third home run of the season. Scotto and Favinger all scored on the play to give the Tigers a 4-1 lead. Â
Â
Walters (4-3) went on to retire the Warriors in order in the top of the seventh inning to close out the game. In seven innings of work, Walters allowed just one run on two hits. She issued one walk and struck out a season-high seven batters.
Â
Junior Kim Yano (3-9) received the loss as she allowed four runs (3 earned) on just three hits. Yano issued two walks and struck out three batters.
