Sharp Shooting Lifts Tigers Past Assumption, 94-80



Worcester, Mass. - The Holy Family University men's basketball team had three players score 20-plus points as the Tigers came away with a 94-80 victory at Assumption College on day one of the East Region Classic on Saturday afternoon inside Laska Gymnasium.

How We Got Here
Holy Family led by as many as seven points late in the first half when redshirt senior Xavier Williams (Philadelphia, Pa./Saul) drained a three-pointer to make the score 28-21 at the 7:40 mark.  However, Assumption erased the Tigers' lead and took a 42-41 lead entering the locker rooms at halftime thanks to a three-pointer by freshman Justin Tuckson as time expired signaling the end of the half.
 
When the teams returned to action for the final 20 minutes, the second half belonged to Holy Family.  The Tigers opened with a 10-0 run to take a 51-42 lead.  Redshirt senior Reggie Charles (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge), who finished with 22 points, capped the rally with a layup. 
 
Holy Family grabbed its first double-digits lead of the game minutes later when senior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) scored on a layup to make the score 55-44 at the 15:58 mark.  The Tigers went on to expand their lead to as many as 24 points after a pair of free throws by Charles made the score 81-57 with less than eight minutes to play.
 
Holy Family outscored Assumption, 53-38, in the second half and shot 56.7-percent from the field, including 10-of-19 from deep range (52.6%).  The Tigers finished the game connecting on 20-of-42 from beyond the arc, the most in a single game in program history in the NCAA Era (2003-Present).

Holy Family: Three players scored 20-plus points for the Tigers in the victory, including Charles, senior Isaiah Gans (Philadelphia, Pa./Redemption Christian Academy) and redshirt senior Eric Fleming (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan)…. All three contributed 13 points in the second half and finished the game connecting on five three-pointers a piece… Charles totaled 22 points on 7-of-9 shooting from the field, including 5-of-6 from deep range… Gans finished with 22 after shooting 7-of-12 from the field and 5-of-8 from three... Gans also grabbed five rebounds and blocked a pair of shots on defense… Fleming produced a season-high 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting (5-11 3FG)… Senior Marvin Crawford (Edison, N.J./J.P. Stevens) also scored in double-figures coming off the bench and providing the Tigers with 13 points, four rebounds, six assists and three steals…Senior Derrick Stewart (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) led the team with 10 rebounds to go along with nine points.
 
Assumption: Sophomore Kamali Bey led a quartet of Greyhounds that score in double-figures with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting… Bey also grabbed six rebounds while dishing out five assists….Junior Jack Sullivan finished with 14 points, while junior Declan Soukup added 12 points with five rebounds and six assists…Junior Reilly Reid added 11 points with four assists…. As a team, Assumption shot 44.1-percent from the field and knocked down 15 three-pointers (15-36) in the game… The Greyhounds were perfect from the free throw line but only attempted five free throws.
 
Raining Threes
Holy Family set a new single game record in the program's NCAA Era (2003-Present) by knocking down 20 three-pointers (20-42)… Six different players made a three-pointer, including five by Charles, Gans and Fleming.
 
Up Next
Holy Family will close out the East Region Classic on Sunday as the Tigers face the College of Saint Rose in a non-conference tilt.  Tip-off is slated for 1 p.m. inside Laska Gymnasium.
