Tigers Cruise Past Chestnut Hill, 3-0



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to three straight matches after defeating Chestnut Hill College by the score of 3-0 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Thursday night inside the Campus Center Gymnasium on Dig Pink Night. Holy Family won the match by the scores of 25-18, 26-24 and 25-17.
 
The win pushes the Tigers to 6-15 overall and evens its record in conference action at 5-5.  Chestnut Hill is now 6-16 overall and 5-4 in the CACC.
 
Freshman Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) and redshirt junior Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) combined for 24 kills to lead the Holy Family attack.  Wassel finished with a team-high 13 kills to go along with 11 digs.  Miller totaled a season-high 11 kills with a .611 attack percentage.  In 18 attack attempts, Miller did not record a single error. 
 
Senior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) added eight kills and five digs, while senior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) recorded five kills and two total blocks.  Freshman Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) led the team with 14 digs, while freshman Natalie Stewart (York, Pa./York Catholic) paced the offense with 36 assists. 
 
For Chestnut Hill, Rachel Biro led the way with ten kills, while Madison McBride totaled nine kills and ten digs.  Kennedy Sutton totaled 29 assists and six digs, while Regina Trabosh finished with 11 digs. 
 
Holy Family controlled the first set jumping out to an 11-4 lead.  The Tigers went on to score 15 of the first 21 points of the set as they led by as many as nine point after a kill by Wassel made the score 15-6.  The Tigers went on to win the set, 25-18, after Herring tallied a kill to cap the scoring.
 
In the second set, Chestnut Hill came out strong offensively as the Griffins opened with 11-1 run to take control of the set early.  Despite the large deficit, Holy Family managed to chip away at the Griffins' lead using spurts here and there throughout the set.
 
Late in the set, the Tigers tallied four of five points to tie the set at 23-23.  Miller tallied a pair of kills and was followed by back-to-back kills by Wassel and Johnson to tie the score.
 
Holy Family grabbed its first lead with a kill by Wassel at 24-23 before the Griffins tied the set with a kill of their own.  The Tigers followed with back-to-back points to clinch the set with a kill by Herring and a set-winning ace by Stewart.
 
The Tigers made quick work of the Griffins in the final and third set after jumping out to a 7-2 lead. Holy Family trailed only once in the set when Chestnut Hill opened with a kill by McBride.
 
During the course of the match, Holy Family sold Dig Pink t-shirts with the proceeds benefiting and supporting the Side Out Foundation for breast cancer research.
