Tigers Shutdown Post, 3-0



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team extended its winning streak to four matches after defeating Post University, 3-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday evening inside the Campus Center Gymnasium.  Holy Family won the match by the scores of 25-20, 25-21 and 25-23.
 
Holy Family improves to 7-15 overall and 6-5 in the CACC, while Post falls to 15-8 overall and 8-3 in conference action. 
 
Redshirt junior Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) led the team with ten kills as she tallied double-digit kills for the second straight match.  She finished the match with an attack percentage of .389 and tallied two block assists.  Senior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) finished with nine kills, while freshman Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) came away with nine kills as well as nine digs.
 
Senior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) added six kills, four aces and 18 digs, while freshman Candyce Riley (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) led the team with 19 digs.  Freshman Natalie Stewart (York, Pa./York Catholic) totaled 29 assists.
 
For Post, Skylar German led the match with 12 kills as she recorded an attack percentage of .385.  She also tallied eight digs.  Hailey Griffin finished with 11 kills, while Sarah Segar added five kills.  Janiellee Alvarez led the team with 16 digs, while Brianna Root totaled 31 assists and 11 digs.
 
Holy Family took control of the first set after grabbing the lead breaking an 8-8 tie.  The Tigers tallied four straight points sandwiched by kills from Wassel to give the team a 12-8 lead.  Holy Family held on to the lead until Post tied the set at 15-15, but another 4-0 run by the Tigers regained control.  From there, the Tigers never relinquished the lead and took the victory after a kill from Wassel to end the set at 25-20.
 
In the second set the Tigers overcame an 8-3 deficit and used a 5-0 run to grab their first lead of the set.  A kill by Herring started the rally and was capped by back-to-back setting errors by the Eagles.  Post would eventually regain the lead and led 19-16, however the Tigers responded with seven straight points to help fuel the second set victory.
 
Two straight attack errors by the Eagles gave the Tigers a 23-19 lead to finish the scoring surge. The Eagles made the score 23-20 before the Tigers tallied two straight points to clinch the set thanks to a kill by Miller and an ace by Riley. 
 
Finally, in the third set the Tigers opened with a big lead after an 8-2 run. Holy Family never relinquished the lead despite Post cutting the lead to 9-8.  The Tigers responded with four straight points, including eight of the next nine points to halt the Eagles run.
 
Post would grab the lead later in the set after chipping away at the Tigers lead.  A kill by Hailey Griffin gave the Eagles a 22-21 lead.  Holy Family quickly regrouped and countered with three straight points to regain the lead at 24-22.  The team capped the win after a bad set by the Eagles to win the match.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 21 as the Tigers travel to face Georgian Court University in a CACC contest. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
