Tigers Defeat Georgian Court, 3-1



Philadelphia, Pa. - Senior Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) and junior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) each tallied 11 kills as the Holy Family University women's volleyball team defeated visiting Georgian Court University by the score of 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Wednesday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.
 
Holy Family improves to 4-9 overall and 2-1 in the conference, while Georgian Court is now 3-9 and 1-2 in the CACC.
 
The Tigers won the first set in convincing fashion by the score of 25-15.  With the set tied 6-6, Holy Family went on to score five unanswered points to take an 11-6 lead.  The Tigers led from then on out winning the set by double-digits.  Holy Family finished the set with a .429 attack percentage after recording 12 kills and only three errors on 21 attempts.
 
Georgian Court picked up a 25-23 victory in set two that saw the Lions trail early on in the set.  Both teams went back and forth towards the end as the Lions prevailed with the two-point victory.
 
In set three, the Tigers opened with a 5-1 advantage before Georgian Court took an 11-10 lead.  However, Holy Family went on to score five straight points thanks to two kills by D. Ingram and a couple of attack errors by the Lions.  Georgian Court tied the set again at 16-16 before Holy Family took the lead for good after a service error by the Lions gave the Tigers a 17-16 lead. Holy Family went on to take the set, 25-21.
 
In the fourth and final set, both teams went back-and-forth the entire set.  Trailing 19-18, Holy Family took advantage of three straight attack errors by the Lions to take a 21-19 lead.  The Tigers didn't relinquish the lead the rest of the set and went on to clinch the match with a kill by Herring to win the set, 25-22.
 
Herring finished the match with 11 kills to go along with six block assists on defense.  She also had three of the team's 12 service aces.  D. Ingram also finished with 11 kills to go along with 11 digs and five block assists.
 
Freshman Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) came away with eight kills and a team-high 13 digs.  She also led the team with four service aces. Junior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) finished with five kills and six digs, while freshman Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) totaled 32 set assists.
 
Also for Holy Family, sophomore Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium) recorded 11 digs to go along with two service aces.
 
For Georgian Court, senior Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez led the attack for the Lions with a match-high 18 kills.  Senior Annabelle Barinas finished with seven kills and eight digs, while sophomore Kelsie Blue totaled seven kills. Sophomore Kelsey Oliver finished with a match-high 38 set assists to go along with eight digs.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 27 as the Tigers travel to face Concordia College in a CACC contest.  Match time is slated for 1 p.m. in Bronxville, N.Y.
