Tigers Split Tri-Match at East Stroudsburg

East Stroudsburg, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team split a tri-match hosted by East Stroudsburg University Saturday afternoon at Koehler Fieldhouse.  The Tigers defeated East Stroudsburg, 3-1, and then came up short versus the University of New Haven, 3-1.
 
Holy Family is now 2-3 overall on the season.

Against East Stroudsburg, sophomores Charlotte Sabatano (Fredrick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) and Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) led the Tigers' attack to propel the team to a four-set victory.  Holy Family took the first two sets by the scores of 25-19 and 25-18, however East Stroudsburg bounced back to win set three (25-16) to cut into the Tigers' 2-1 match lead.  Holy Family then went on to win the fourth set by the score of 25-22 to clinch the match.
 
Sabatano led the team with a match-high 14 kills to go along with ten digs.  Johnson also recorded double-digit kills with 11 as she also led the team with 16 digs. She also had two solo blocks. Sophomore Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) tallied eight kills and 11 digs, while senior Sarah Ambach (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) came through with seven kills.  Freshman Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium/) had 11 digs on the defensive side.  Senior Chelsea Keegan (Bucyrus, Ohio/Colonel Crawford) totaled a match-high 32 set assists to go along with five digs. 
 
For East Stroudsburg, freshman Sydney Galoozis led the Warriors with a match-high 14 kills.  She also had four digs and seven total blocks.  Galoozis had one solo block and assisted on six others.  Junior Abby Welch also tallied double-digit kills with ten.  Sophomore Haley Mork led the match with 17 digs.

New Haven took the first two sets by identical 25-22 scores to lead 2-0 in the match before the Tigers won the third set by the score of 25-23.  In the fourth set, the Chargers won a close 26-24 set to take the match, 3-1. 
 
Johnson led all players with 16 kills in the match to go along with 14 digs.  Ingram also finished with 14 digs on the defensive side.  She also tallied three kills and had two block assists.  Sabatano tallied six kills, while collecting ten digs.  Keegan finished with a match-high 30 set assists.
 
For New Haven, the senior duo of Amber Cannady and Ashley Dalton led the Chargers with 12 and 11 kills respectively.  Cannady was also credited for five block assists as New Haven finished the match with 11.5 total team blocks. Sophomore Kea-Marie Olaso finished with a match-high 22 digs.  Junior Kristy Atufunwa also had five block assists.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 17 as the Tigers host the University of the Sciences in the team's home opener.  Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
