Volleyball Competes at AIC Invitational; Keeve Records 1,000 Career Kills

The Holy Family University women's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests during day one of the American International College Invitational in Springfield, Mass. Friday evening. 

The Tigers were defeated by St. Mary's University (20-25, 18-25, 22-25) and Dowling College (18-25, 17-25, 14-25) by identical 3-0 scores. 

Holy Family is now 1-7 overall, while St. Mary's and Dowling improve to 5-0 and 4-1 respectively.

In the earlier match against St. Mary's, senior Jillian Keeve (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Twp.) made history, as she became just the second player in program history to record 1,000 career kills after recording nine kills in Holy Family's first match.  Keeve added ten kills against Dowling to up her total to 1,013.  Former Holy Family standout Jennifer O'Connor (2005-2008) holds the program's all-time record with 1,398 career kills.

Senior Alyssa Keegan and sophomore Sarah Ambach (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) also tallied nine kills against St. Mary's, while sophomore Chelsea Keegan (Bucyrus, Ohio/Colonel Crawford) recorded a match-high 32 assists for Holy Family.

For St. Mary's, Karlie Ortega finished with a match-high 15 kills, while Allie Murray had 22 assists and 12 digs.  Victorria Martine recorded a match-high 18 digs.

Against Dowling, Keeve tallied ten kills, while Keihl added eight for the Tigers.  Keegan came through with 23 assists and eight digs. 

Dowling's Bethany Shepard had a team-high 12 kills, while Casey Kelly contributed 11 kills.  Maja Potpara led Dowling with 32 assists to go along with five kills and five digs.

Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, September 10 as the Tigers face Dominican College and American International on the final day of the AIC Invitational.  Holy Family will face Dominican at 11 a.m. and then American International at 3 p.m.
