Nyack, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team picked up two victories as the Tigers defeated Nyack College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest and Mercy College in a non-conference contest in a tri-match Saturday afternoon in Nyack, N.Y.
Holy Family improves to 8-9 overall and 5-0 in conference play after defeating Nyack, 3-2, and Mercy, 3-0.
In the match against Nyack, Holy Family came back, after trailing 2-1 in the match, for the victory. The Tigers won set four by the score of 25-22 to tie the match at 2-2 and then clinched the victory with a 15-8 win in the fifth and final set.
Senior Jillian Keeve (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Twp.) recorded a match-high 19 kills to lead the attack for the Tigers. Sophomore Sarah Ambach (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) came through with nine kills, while junior Cara Przybylowicz (Ridley Park, Pa./Ridley) tallied eight kills. Sophomore Chelsea Keegan (Bucyrus, Ohio/Colonel Crawford) finished with 38 assists and 12 digs. Senior Jordan Beland (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock) recorded 13 digs, while junior Mackenzie Bickes (Orchard Lake, Mich./Mercy) added 14 digs.
For Nyack, Allyson Rola led the team with 11 kills to go along with two solo blocks. Debbie Schendell added nine kills and 14 digs, while Michelle Makela finished with 20 digs. Amelia Moore had six kills and a team-high 24 assists.
Against Mercy, Holy Family made quick work of the Mavericks winning the match by the score of 3-0. The Tigers picked up an easy victory in set one by the score of 25-13 and followed with a 25-20 win in set two. Holy Family then clinched the match with a 25-22 victory in set number three.
Keeve led the Holy Family attack again with a team-high 11 kills and a .450 attack percentage. Ambach tallied eight kills and had three block assists. Keegan had 24 assists in the win against Mercy.
For Mercy, Brenna White finished with a match-high 13 kills to go along with six digs.
Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 27 as the Tigers host Georgian Court University in a CACC contest. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
