Lakewood, N.J. - Caldwell College came through with a 3-0 victory over Holy Family University in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Final Saturday afternoon at Georgian Court University to claim the 2010 Women's Volleyball Championship.
The loss snapped Holy Family's 12-match winning streak as the Tigers are now 21-10 overall, while Caldwell improves to 24-7.
Caldwell jumped out to a quick start as the Cougars won the first set by the score of 25-10. In set two, Caldwell led early on with a 10-5 set lead before extending its lead later in the set at 22-12 after a 5-0 run. The Cougars went on to a 25-14 set two win.
In set three, Holy Family jumped out to a 10-4 lead to hold the early advantage, however Caldwell bounced back to come within one point at 11-10. Both teams exchanged points tying the score six times before Holy Family rallied for a 23-20 lead. The Cougars later tied the match at 25-25 and eventually rallied for a 27-25 set three victory to clinch the match.
Junior
Jillian Keeve (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Twp.) led the attack for Holy Family with a team-high ten kills. Keeve was also named to the All-Tournament team along with senior Aimee Drabyn (Avon, Ind./Avon) . Drabyn had a team-best 22 assists and nine digs.
For Caldwell, sophomore Susan McDonough was named the tournament's most valuable player after recording a match-best 11 kills and in the process picked up five digs. Junior Lauren Roth and sophomore Amber Mosher were also named to the All-Tournament team. Roth had nine digs and two kills in the tournament final, while Mosher added 10 kills and had an attack percentage of .476.
