Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Gutierrez’s Scores 26 Seconds Apart in 72nd Minute to Earn Men’s Soccer a Point in CACC Opener at Nationally-Ranked Wilmington

PHILADELPHIA – Hugo Gutierrez (Valladolid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Lourdes) scored twice in the span of 26 seconds in the 72nd minute to earn the HFU men's soccer team a point in its Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) opener at No. 16 Wilmington on Wednesday evening.

After both teams registered one attempt on net in the first half, with the Tigers' coming by Kevin Castro (Bensalem, Pa./Father Judge) less than four minutes in, the Wildcats found the net 3:15 out of break.

Wilmington then made it 0-2 in the 56th, despite three stops from Joey Phillips (Levittown, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) in the prior 5:14.

Phillips kept it at 0-2 with a save just over a minute following the second goal, setting the stage for Gutierrez's brace.

It was Ever Maradiaga (Edgewater Park, N.J./Life Center Academy) who set up the first score, as he got in behind the defense on a Mamadou Nianghane (Dakar, Senegal/Abraham Lincoln) pass over the top before slotting across the face of net for the Gutierrez to finish.

Nianghane then assisted the second, with a cross from just outside of the left side of the 18 that the junior one-timed in at the far post.

That turned out to be the last shot of the contest.

The two goals were the first of Gutierrez's Holy Family career, while Nianghane's assist was the first of his collegiate career.

Maradiaga now leads the Tigers with two assists on the year.
