Tigers Heading Back to CACC Finals After Win Over Clippers

Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's volleyball team will be heading back to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Finals for the third straight season after defeating third-seeded Concordia College, 3-0, in the semifinals on Thursday night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.

Score: Holy Family 3, Concordia 0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-22)
Records: Holy Family (7-1, 5-1 CACC) | Concordia (5-3, 4-2 CACC)
Location: Philadelphia, Pa. (Campus Center Gymnasium)

How It Happened

* In the first set the Holy Family offense set a season-high with 20 kills to take an early lead in the match.  The Tigers trailed just once in the set when the Clippers led 1-0.  Seniors Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) and Camille Johnson (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) each recorded seven kills in the opening set to lead the Tigers' attack.

* Holy Family trailed the second set 4-1 early on and slowly began chipping away at the Clippers lead.  However, Concordia had an answer each time the Tigers appeared to be close in taking over the lead.  It wasn't until a 7-0 run by the Tigers the set shifted momentum.  The Clippers led 15-12, but seven unanswered points by Holy Family gave the Tigers their first advantage at 19-15.  Concordia would score the next two points in the set before falling to another run by the Tigers; this time a 6-1 rally to close the set.  Sophomore Allyssa Hartney (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the team with six kills in the set.

* The third set turned out to be the closest of the three sets in the match.  Neither team grabbed an advantage larger than three points in the set. With the set tied 14-14, Holy Family recorded back-to-back points thanks to two kills by Hartney to lead 16-14.  That turned out to be the final lead change of the set as the Tigers maintained the edge the rest of the set.

News and Notes

* Covington and Hartney each picked the perfect time to set season-high with kills as both players finished the match with 16 kills and attack percentages over .300-percent.  Covington also added 10 digs.

* Junior Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) also set a season-high as she finished the night with 40 assists to go along with 19 digs.  Her 40 assists were more than enough to push her into second place all alone on the program's all-time assist list.  Silks now has 3,177 career assists and only trails Aimee Drabyn (3,889) for most assists in program history.

* Johnson finished the match with eight kills while adding four aces; one shy of her career-high set in the quarterfinals versus Dominican College.

* Defensively, the Tigers had five players finish in double-figures in digs in addition to Covington and Silks.  Junior Stephanie Woolston (Warminster, Pa./William Tennent) recorded a career-high 12 digs, while sophomore Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) added 15 and freshman Faith Zehnder (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) totaled 12.

* Concordia's Lydimar Soto led the Clippers with 10 kills to go along with nine digs.  Nelly Diaz came away with a match-high 34 digs.
