Tigers Roll Past Cougars in Cross Division Clash



Caldwell, N.J. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team made quick work of Caldwell University as the Tigers defeated the Cougars, 3-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) cross-division match up on Friday evening.

How It Happened
 
* Holy Family simply outplayed Caldwell on both sides of the net.  The Tigers recorded a season-best .434 hitting percentage and made a season-low seven errors on the attack.  Defensively the Tigers forced 16 attack errors by the Cougars resulting in a -.065 hitting percentage; the lowest by a Holy Family opponent this season.  The Tigers also made 44 digs on defense to 27 by the Cougars.  Holy Family also recorded nine service aces in the win.
 
* In the first set the Tigers led 5-4 and followed with seven of the next eight points in the match to grab a 12-5 advantage.  Holy Family never looked back, winning the set, 25-14.  The second set saw the Tigers jump out to an 8-3 lead. After a Caldwell point made it 8-4, Holy Family scored 11 unanswered points to take a commanding 19-4 lead before winning the set, 25-7.
 
* The Tigers faced their biggest deficit in the match in the third set when the Cougars held a 9-6 lead.  Holy Family eventually tied the set at 10-10 and went on to score 13 of the next 14 points to lead 23-11. The Tigers took the set, 25-13.  
 
News and Notes
 
* Senior Chase Wassel (North Wales, Pa./Lansdale Catholic) led the match with 18 kills to go along with nine digs.
 
* Junior Gianna Pesognelli (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle) finished with 10 kills while hitting at clip of .625.  She currently leads the CACC in hitting percentage at .367.
 
* Junior Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass./North Andover (Rivier College)) led the match with 14 digs.
 
* Sophomore Carly Covington (Delmar, Md./Delmar) came through with nine kills, three aces and 10 digs.
 
* Freshman Morgan Silks (Norristown, Pa./Archbishop John Carroll) led the match with 36 assists to go along with seven digs.
 
All-Time Series
Tonight marked the 21st meeting between Holy Family and Caldwell dating back to the 2006 season.  The Tigers are now 7-14 versus the Cougars in the all-time series.  The win also marked just the second time that Holy Family has defeated Caldwell in back-to-back years in the regular season.
 
Next Up
Holy Family returns to action on Tuesday, Sept. 25 as the Tigers host Chestnut Hill College in a CACC contest. Match time is set for 6 p.m. at the Campus Center.
